What springer did you shoot today?

The 97K finaly gets some non JSB ammo shooting 75 yards.

After 3500 rounds of 13.73, I started with JSB Heavy's shooting all 500 rounds. I found the accuracy to suffer only slightly. The trajectory change required 6 MOA of up. After that I switched back and finished off the tin of 13.73's.

Next up was H&N Barracuda's 13.58.
I didn't like these as they were hard to load, and inaccurate for me. Interestingly their trajectory was about 5 MOA higher than the JSB Exact's, even though the H&N's were only .15 gr lighter.
I wound up dialing in 20 clicks of down with them.
after 60 or so rounds my thumb got sore loading those so I switched to the H&N 11.42 FTT's.

The 11.42 FTT's shot higher yet requiring all the down that I had left bottoming out my elevation turret. They were easy to load seating a little less than flush. The accuracy came back and I shot a round of Crazy Eights before I lost light.

The H&N's had different characteristics than the JSB's in the way they sounded hitting the steel targets. The JSB's have a pronounced "klink", and the H&N's were almost silent.

I can't beleive I'm at my scope stop with these, and I don't want to subject the scope to a springer pounding while it's against the stops. So ill have to adjust my rings to continue with the FTT's.
I am curious about how much flatter my trajectory is and how that will effect accuracy, and shot ranging, but they were worse in the wind so?
Why is your scope bottomed out at 75 yards? Where do you zero at?

looks like adjustable rings
With my .177 97K I'm zeroed at 40 yards using signature zee rings, so my turrets are pretty much optically centered. Dialed up 15 MOA, and I'm on at 100 yards. Or, I can hold over 15MOA on the reticle. So I should be able to hit out to 200 yards, although I haven't tried it yet.

Using JSB 13.73's, the plan was to have the scope centered to have equal amount of up adjustment past (scope center) for 75 yards, as it does down adjustment past scope center for my 30 yard range.
It seems to.me that I should be able accommodate this flatter trajectory. So maybe I have more down set in the rings than I thought.
I need to calculate the moa difference between JSB Heavy's, at 75y, and H&N FTT, at 30y. To find that span and center on it.

Yup, and adjusting them is not a perfect science. Perhaps the feeler guage will help.

The zero was at 75y, JSB 13.73, and or 15 MOA of down to zero 30y.
So, if the scope is properly centered, I should have an extra 25 Moa of up at 75y and an extra 25 moa of down at 30y. That is about how much down I used to zero the H&N FTT's at 75y!

I pulled the 97K out and found that my scope finaly slipped. So all my data is irrelevant.
I have been watching it and it has never moved. I wonder if the pellet change could effect the recoil?

I doubt it. Put a small piece of ( I use white electrical tape) against the ring, if it moves it will wrinkle the tape, if it doesn't move for several shooting sessions then take it off. I tighten mine by hand, and probably more torque than they call for..lol.

Scoped my new HW30...did some pellet testing at 30 yards. Although it sometimes feels like work, I enjoy the testing required with a new rifle. I guess I'm goal oriented :). I'm impressed with this little gem (as is everyone else, it seems) with good accuracy out of the box, even with my meager skills.

I also tested the CP 7.9's. All "very good" in my scoring system, but not "excellent". So far it looks like the HN Barracuda's were the best. And I shot at some reactive targets out to 45 yds, they performed well. Cheers! Rick

15 moa adjustment or hold over is what I use for switching from the 30 to 75 yard ranges, using .20 cal, JSB 13.73's.

Congratulations on a great air rifle! If you haven’t already, check out the 7.3 JSBs or 7.3 Falcons. Those seem to be excellent pellets for many HW30S shooters.

Sad to say it, but my Element Helix FFP failed possibly due to springer recoil. Time to test the warranty unfortunately. The ocular lens came loose with about 10 moa of movement when you wiggle it.

I mounted the Element Helix SFP and continued on

I mounted the scope and butted the scope level against the rear ring to monitor any slippage, and it was moving, so I reset and put a little more torqe on the rings. So far, so good.
It was too windy for any real testing but I did manage two rounds of Crazy Eights and about ten hits on the hanging bottle, a challenging moving target before it was time to go.

Got home from work with about an hour of light and the new aperture front sight and new Williams peep I mounted the other night on the HW35 Relatively easy to work with, aside from the top two screws having a horribly narrow and shallow drive. I’d like to replace those with a torx if I could find the right ones.
Maybe 50 cphp .177 today. Things are smooth with a little clank. After a couple adjustments at 15 yards.

Looks like the rest is up to me. It’s all very relaxing and fun.
Oh, and the Outers .22 cal trap could be my second best purchase. Perfect for my yard.

That is one nice looking piece of timber on that 35. Such a classic! Enjoy.

Nice upgrade. Only 382 more to go.😂
381. Today I started on the 125 yr. HW50 .22

Put a TbT kit in this one. I have another 50 .22 with a Vortek. I’ve been using these Snap-on files.

They make de-burring easy and cut clean. After this post I’m going down to assemble the 50. Crow
