What springer did you shoot today?

Pulled out the old HyScore pistol in .22 for some can plinking. Love the looks of the old HyScores and decent shhoters as well.

Oldest 10m gun I have, Anschutz 220 from early 60's, and "best" gun I have, FWB300SU. Not too much difference at my skill level, but maybe a competitive shooter would disagree? The 220 was a fantastic airgun for its time. Before the 220 came the LG54 underlever tap loader from early mid 50's, copy of BSA Airsporter/?Falke. Be fun to compare with the 220, but VERY rare.

Got done building a cargo carrier and it had cooled off enough and there was enough light left to shoot a little. 52 Luxus .177. Feels good to have this one running right again. Special gun. Maccari spring and guide in this one. Beautiful solid shot cycle. Quick, firm straight back, no buzz, no twang. 14 FPE with Baracudas and 16 FPE with FTT. Didn’t even re-zero. Just figured out hold under at 20 yards and killed Cooper the Squirrel and spinners and chalk for about 30 minutes.

love the older guns , even harder to find in lefty for me .

That’s wicked. Squirrels don’t stand a chance.
Got three of them. Just a tad over 35 yds with Seneca 16.1 gr hunting pellets. They got into my attic by chewing a hole through the corner of one of the eaves. I put some bait up on the roof and waited for them to come out. Shot the three and put a temporary plug in the hole and went inside to see if my cats were still going nuts and staring at the ceiling.

All quiet so I sealed the hole permanently this morning. The bipod doesn't change the POI of the D48 enough at that range to make any difference. Had to be headshots lest a wounded one scurry back into the attic and die. Glad it's Fall and too cold for mosquitos as it took a few hours to get them.

Squirrels I understand. But, what is this fall of which y’all speak? Has cooled a little, believe it was only 94 today. Is that fall LOL? Humidity too oppressive to shoot. Have you tried a Diana 54 or 56 yet? You might like it. And all the tinkering possibilities would be right up your alley.

It's a sweltering 45 degrees F here right now. I don't think it's ever been above 90 even in the middle of summer. Lived in AZ for awhile, I don't miss the heat. The Diana 54 is definitely on my shopping list, along with a Weihrauch HW97K, both in .22 cal.

Had a red lam 54 for one day. It unfortunately arrived with a folding stock LOL. Love my 56 T/H and I prefer the look. HW97 is a tremendous gun also. Little buzzy but doesn’t bother me, just part of HW charm.

Got a Pro Sport .22 out for a hunt. My wife gave me half a water melon that turned. View attachment 392062Have the target 20 yds away. The Pro Sport laughed.View attachment 392063Got a yellowjacket. You can see his ass just above center. Crow
Nice. Fun, ain’t it? One got into my shirt sleeve at gas station last weekend and hit me 3 or 4 times before I could get it out. Been looking to exact revenge. Never thought about baiting them, thanks.Put about 15 pellets through FWB 124 mid-day. Standing at 30 yards kicking cans around. Great shooting gun, smooth and well-balanced. Believe this one has the ARH Plinkers kit in it. Makes 10.5-11 FPE and is easier to cock than a HW30. Amazing.

An old family friend who lives down the road has a squirrel and groundhog problem. She's elderly and the only form of pest control she owns is a 20ga shotgun. Packing up two of my best critter guns and heading down there this afternoon. Taking the D48 for the squirrels, and a custom .22 magnum I built 30+ years ago for the groundhogs. It's the very first custom rifle I built post gunsmith school.

riff-1.JPG

The .22 mag is a single shot. I started with a Marlin 880 series action, and I turned the barrel from a Shilen blank. Trigger group is my own design, as is the stock. Stock is a hand laid fiberglass shell over an aluminum frame with high-density foam filler. The pebble finish is a mix of 2 part epoxy paint over Marine-tex texturing. Metal finish is Gun Kote, brake is an AWC unit. Ground hogs out to 100 yds are no problem. Should be a productive afternoon.

I love fall but what’s really weird is June, July and August there were days I never saw a mosquito. Now around 7 pm they drive me in the house. Crow
Pulled all my 4 rifles out of the safe today. Yep only 4. Shot the Titan first then the 77. Next up was the Lgv Challenger and finally the 50S. Looks like the Hw’s won this round. Great fun, trying to keep my mind off having my 6 monthly pet/ct scan next Tuesday.

Nice build. I wish you were closer. No squirrels here for 3-4 months. They got me good in my last place. Crow

Not the quantity, it’s the quality. And you got that.

Man, that’s awesome.

First tin of .20cal JSB 13.73's through the new HW30 today, shooting 29, and 75 yards
First I zeroed the irons, then mounted a scope, a Nikko Sterling AirKing 3x9x42, and shot till dark.
The wind was crazy and variable. At dusk the wind laid down so I dialed it in and had a great shoot untill I lost visability.
The little HW30 is the best shooter I've had on my Crazy Eigjts. One shot one kill on the Crazy8's, no bouncing back down, or fails to lock, or bouncing a different one back loose, and one shot one kill to drop all 8, with the reset spinner. 👍
To shoot 75 yards I experimented dialing the scope down looking for a power setting so that I could use the tip of the bottom post to aim. 5x was the ticket. I could shoot pill bottles consistently once the wind lied down.
Anyway a very enjoyable evening.
I noticed that POA was centered about an inch and a half over the backstop when I was lined up for the shot. Tomorrow I'll get a measurement to see how much drop that is from 29 to 75 yards?

Diana 52 Luxus .177 was still in the gun vise from last night. Walked out to 20, 25, and 30 yards with it to make sure I was happy with it. I was. Cans weren’t. Went to put it back and my .22 HW95 looked lonely. It’s behind the 52 in the safe. Never needs anything so sometimes it gets neglected while I tweak other guns. Might still be my favorite all round gun. Walked out to 25, 30, and 35 with it and made the cans wish I’d stuck with .177. ARH order with some small parts for FWB 124 came in today. Replaced those devil star washers with ARH spacers and replaced the screws with the ARH ones. Wiped a little moly on the dry spring. Went out and put about 15 pellets through it to spread the moly around. Destroyed any hope the cans had left. Nice to shoot standing, don’t do it as much because Kim likes bench. And thankful weather has cooled enough to go outside!
