Tuning What to do with a .177 regulated Talon ss, if anything.

OK so I have recently acquired a talon ss, spare tank and altaros regulator for cheap thanks to a friend of mine. THANK YOU - you know who you are.

This isn't something that's been on my wish list or even particular something I was looking to get, but I have another Air Force (souped up talon P shooting well over 100 fpe out of an 18" barrel, yee-haw!) and I thought having a second one on hand would be useful given how modular and mod-able these are.

I have some spare parts: stock talon p hammer and spring, .25 cal breech, 12" .25 barrel, spare talon p tank with ring lock top hat kit so I can change port size. I changed all of these parts to make the souped up version of the talon p.

I could almost create the equivalent of an Escape ss (= silenced talon p) .25 in that frame. I think I might have to drill out the baffles a little bit which might not be a good idea.

It also occurred to me to try to get some higher energy in .177 and maybe I could shoot some heavier pellets and slugs. I know that the tanks are standard flow so it looks like I can't add a TalonTunes quick change top hat (that was my first instinct).

So if you had one of these, and you wanted to modify it in some relatively low budget way to get a little more power out of it, what would you do?

What about making something outrageous based on this starting point?

Or maybe I should just keep it as is and enjoy a regulated high shot count relatively lower energy air gun to contrast with my hundred FPE beast.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

That's not a bad idea. the baffles won't do any good because the 18 inch barrel would require me to take them out... but it would be nice to have the barrel completely shrouded.

I could probably also find a way to take those baffles and put them in some kind of a tube and use that as an LDC. Would be nice to have some free metal baffles to use in my own designs which I've been making which are sort of a combination of 3-D printed and other things.

This would also allow me to attach an LDC to the shroud instead of to the barrel which would solve all kinds of headaches there. I'll have to see if that heavy barrel fit inside of the ss body.

odoyle - will definitely shoot as-is for a month or so. I have one regulated and one unregulated bottle, I plan to try some different regulator set points and in general see what it's like to shoot this before turning into something else that is good advice.

shambozie - getting a longer barrel would be the ideal next step. Not a cheap step but the most return on effort I think

Mp, at present I'm running my Tj 1-22 unchoked in my Talondor. I have an 18" 20 in the gun closet you can try. Shoot me a pm with your mailing address and i will drop it in the mail with a few pellets to try.

If you like that kind of platform in a gun, why not have an econo plinker .177. A .177 should be in everyone’s stable. Leave it alone for a while and see if it fills a void.

+1! I’m actually quite surprised by the power of .177, I shot a good size crow with my PP700 and it dropped like a rock! I shot it because it thought it would just pluck a few feathers and it would just fly off(i shot one with .22 and it did just that) so it doesn’t make crazy noise in my tree, you should see the shock on my face when I saw that thing just keeled over and fell with hardly a flap from a body shot no less.

crosman .177 pellets are cheap and pretty accurate over all if the barrel likes them.
