Taipan What would you do with this Taipan cheekpiece and scope ring combination?

I agree the cheek piece and stock don't look good together. If you want to keep it I would probably paint it black. Unless you can find a scrap of the same laminate and make a new one I think making it much less visible is the best alternative. Thin wood pieces tend to be delicate too. To get the appearance of wood it's possible to glue a veneer (some is paper backed, some is sticky so it adheres itself) to a plastic or metal piece. But unless you can find veneer of a red laminate it won't match well either.
The wood being thin and delicate is actually one of the reasons why I don't want to dedicate an expensive set of scope rings for it. Even if I paint it black, if in the future I break it, I can't just buy this part. Just a wrong move and get the back end of the cheekpiece to catches on something, it could leverage off from the receiver. There is about a millimeter thick piece of metal underneath which the wood is glued on. This metal piece is what the bolts are holding on to. Leveraging off the back end, I can see the wood breaking away from the metal piece.

Just an update but I'm glad that I stuck with the scope rings that I bought and didn't exchange them for the next size up. I've been using the rifle for a bit now without the cheekpiece and it really isn't bad once I got used to it and expect the coldness of the metal before I put my face on it.

The Nightforce medium height rings that I bought is just about the perfect height for this gun with how I like my cheekweld.

Been using my Vets for most of a decade primarily without anything on the action where I'm the cheek rests. I did snag a chassis stock with the wood cheek rest a couple of years ago. So one of the Vets has had that for two ish years, the other two are just bare metal. I'm ambivalent, with or without isn't a deal breaker.

I've been using the Veteran platform for 5 years now but I've always used one of the 3D printed cheekpiece. I sold the Veteran Long last year along with that plastic cheekpiece when I bought the Tactical stock thinking I'll never return to the laminate stock again. It's ok though because I never really liked how the 3D printed cheekpiece looked.

I purchased these neoprene cheek protectors from amazon, about 1/4" thick, soft and comfy with self adhesive. I just use an exacto blade for screw cut. About $14. Clean metal with rubbing alcohol before application.
