What would you like to see on the next FX Wildcat?

@ CMATERA- I’m sorting pellets now, JSB 30 cal, 44.75’s.

Dont know why there’s so much love for these. 4 different head sizes and up to 7 types of weights. I’ll be lucky to get one full tin of one head size, one weight, in a batch 900 that I went thru. At the current prices of around $18/tin, that’s $108 for 6 tins and the majority will become plink ammo.

I think JSB should’ve at least provided me the weight scale, the head sizer gage, and sorting containers to make it right?

Bigragu-I think you are chasing unicorns there are just too many variables to come up with anything meaningful across even the exact same model of gun. Your gun might like a certain weight/head diameter, and even the same model gun another.

Good post, CMATERA. Here are a few things that I feel should be addressed-

1. On the wildcats cocking block that’s cinched down on the cocking rod, those two grub screws are problematic and when they loosen up the transfer port alignments will be shifted. Another way of cinching down that cocking block should be used, or maybe about 1 1/2” of that rod to the left and right of the block should either be machined flat and have indents for the grub screws to land on.

2. The o ring on those magazines to act as a pressure fit to the mag well are problematic as they pop out. Maybe design a magnetized system like Gamo or Daystate uses in their mags

3. the safety with its tiny rod press fit into place onto a cylinder is no good. All it takes is.a ham fisted owner with no finesse to push or pull too hard on that thing and now the rod is loose and the safety just flops around 

4. mag holders. I own two MK2 wildcats with the JSAR scope rails that house three mags. If there is one aftermarket part that was the best ever for a wildcat that was it. I say was because they are no longer being made. Kudos to Travis Whitney for designing that.

5. Beefier cocking handle- the new impacts have them. Why not do the same on all new fx platforms moving forward?

6. A way to keep the cocking lever open with the barrel pointed down- I’ve addressed this on my own MK2 wildcats with a magnet system from smwengineering. The wildcat, I feel, is a purpose designed gun for the hunt. If out in the woods doing a run and gun on s critter, there’s nothing more frustrating than having to hold the cocking handle with one hand while inserting the msg with another with the barrel pointed down.



7. Pic rail under the stock should come standard and properly installed using T- nuts and epoxy, not just screwed into the stock. Also, a rear attachment for sling mounted. After all, this is a hunting gun, and if hatsan, Benjamin, and lower tier platforms have them so should FX.

These are just a few items I’ve had to address and already done to my own MK2 wildcats. Next to the impact, I feel the wildcat is a classic design and a true hunting platform. I see this platform never ever going away. The bottle design is perfect and very glad FX has made that move to better an already awesome platform. I think in time I need to add this to my collection.

I agree with most everything you said……But forget the magholder idea. Maybe with the smaller mags it’s ok. I never had the chance to carry them. But the bigger mags just plain rattle too much. I have tried carrying extra mags in my coat , pants and shirt pockets. Even put them under my hat. But every step you take they rattle. But that may be my mistake as I fill them with slugs. A nice walnut stock would be nice. Have to admit, I don’t care for the look of the black rubberized stock. But it sure feels nice in your hands.

I see this as more of an improvement or version to the Maverick than a new Wildcat. It is 95 percent Maverick with the Wildcat stock. FX could have introduced it as a new option to the Maverick but chose to make it the MK4 Wildcat to give it the much needed bottle and larger plentum the Wildcat owners were wanting to make this classic Hunter even better. This is just what I was wanting . I have the Maverick but just think it is naked and doesn’t resemble what I want I a hunting rifle. I have always liked the look and feel of the Wildcat. so I put my order in for the VP and maybe I’ll be getting another barrel or two for this one.

I am thinking, if FX wanted to provide a user generated database over "the most successful" pellets, they could interoperate that in the APP for the FX crono, this way people could shoot a string / find a good setting, add to that the pellet used and grouping size and rifle model, and then upload from APP to FX, which again with a little trickery with computers i dont understand, could factor that into their database, and have a suggestion for users available in seconds.

Now granted i am inclined to making things more simple than they really are, but setting up such a "pellet server" with a self adjusting / evolving database cant be that hard for a person that know these things, personally i could not make anything in code if my life depended on it, cuz the Basic i dabbled very little with in the ZX81 days, well not the kind of "data" my brain have bothered storing.

I would see such a measure as empowering your customers, and i find that very attractive living in a place where i have free choice, on so and so shelf mind you, anything else are a big no no and utterly not up for debate.

You do not want to hear my solution for ALL of the worlds problems, it is too extreme and i mostly get shot down the moment i say, but it would without a doubt work. :)

PS: above i am not advocating for people to shoot groups with the FX chrono dangling off the barrel, though i think some times it dont matter that much, might even help in some rare cases, i personally only use my chrono to get my initial speed ( normally in the high end ) and then i slowly work my way down in hammer spring tension. I have also stopped attaching my chrono to the gun itself, it is now on a small tripod. OF course using the FX APP as source that do rule out people using other chronographs.

PPS, i also think FX should make the barrels stiffer from the factory, by including the carbon fiber liner or some other magic along those lines. i mean just look at all the things that have come up in this regard, harmonic dampeners - carbon fiber sleeves , tensioned barrels and what not, seemingly there is a want for something,,,,, more.

I sure wish Saber Tactical was more aftermarket friendly with this gun. I really like the adjustable butt they have on the impacts, and wish they made the same for the wildcats. Maybe include a hole on the unit for QD attachment of a sling 

FX should bring back the wood stock version of this gun, or maybe a bronze edition like the impacts.

lastly, I’m right handed but siding with the lefty folks in that this new platform should easily be offered in a left handed version also.

Personally my biggest issue with the maverick/wildcat and some other bull pups that I’ve had was safety location. I hate having everything in the middle but the safety. I really like the Uragan safety setup, especially if you woods stalking, same with the Leshiy2. Both my r5m and maverick had the rear safety. I worked at a duck hunting club for several years and really value a safety that is easy to use/reach.
