What's a good group

Hey guys , 
what size group would one have to shoot to be competitive at 50yds?? With today's technology what would one have to strive for to be a competitive shooter??

That's what I figured, but how often do the stars align!!!LOL. 
Just curious to see different opinions on accuracy at 50, and be competitive

I'm not a competition shooter but I think one minute of angle (moa)or better is excellent. One inch at 100 yards half inch at 50. I will be very happy with a gun that will let me do that if I can do my part.

from what I've been reading that's about the norm 1/2 inch @ 50yds. Doing it consistently is another thing!!!! LOL,

Mccollum69, there are quite a few shooters here and on you tube whom have posted 1/2 inch at 50 yard 5,10, and even 20 shots groups. With 22 and 25 cal's as well, guess we only have to do our part (and have a good gun).

Yes, one half inch at 50 yards is the MOA standard. And, it's not that easy to do consistently. A one off 5 shot group here and there yes, but group after group is much more difficult. Got my first sub MOA average for multiple groups yesterday with my FX Royale 200. 6 group average of .459 with one group .263. And that's really the gold standard, quarter inch 50 yard group. Not quite there yet....Some day!

If any of you are experienced (read old) enough to remember Jack O'Connor as the shooting editor for Field & Stream in the 1960's. I always enjoyed his frank no BS style. He once made the statement that more game was shot at 500 yards with scope sighted typewriters than any other instrument. In air gun parlance that would equate to consistent sub minute groups with scope sighted I-pads.

I agree with the 1 MOA from 50 yards in. It's very challenging, and takes both good equipment and lots of skill. Many guns can do it, some can't. At 100 yd, 1 MOA is world class with an air gun, and only for the few who enjoy punishment and disappointment.

I'm one to push myself but had to see what was considered a good group at competition level. Think my gun is capable but that loose nut behind the trigger is gonna need some adjustment!!
