From a practical standpoint, if you can have a light hold against your shoulder, without the gun falling of the shoulder, it is probably balanced enough

It's merely a descriptive term. "Balanced" can be a part of a reference to a forward or rear biased balance, similar to the weight distribution of a car; not good or bad, merely a description. Also similar to a car, it is subject to personal preference.I am not an expert, but I have always considered a balanced gun, is a one wich have the balance where you rest your forhand. If the balance point is on the grip, that should be a back heavy gun?
