Always heard them referred to as an "hour meter" but I can't say which ones are good or not

Yeah, hour meter or runtime meter. Vibration activated or hard wired.

I believe their just called vibration hour meters. I've been using this style for a while with no issues. For the little 12VDC compressor you switch the sensitivity to high.
