What's the scope of choice for WFTC or Open Class FT

While at the PA Cup I saw a few old Leupold Competition scopes (which I heard are NLA) and a few Sightron SIII's.

List them if you got 'em.

I've been using an SIII for 2 years now. Been happy with it. If my budget allowed, I'd like to try a Kahles with that way cool AO wheel on the elevation turret.

I love my Leupold Comp. If it ever goes south and I have to replace it, I’m not sure what I will do. It’s about a pound lighter than most other scopes used in FT. 

The Leipold also has a very forgiving eye relief. Moving your eye slightly one direction or another when looking through the scope will not cause it to just go black like so many others.

Some dislike it because it does not snap in and out when rangefinding. Others dislike it because it is fixed power. Neither of those bother me at all. It did take me a little time to learn how to rangefind in a repeatable manner with it, though.

Falcon X50 is worth looking at. I bought one after looking through a friends. Snaps in and out of focus better than others that I've looked through, including the Sightron 10-50 and the Kahles with the wheel on top.

I have 2 Sightron Slll's, one in milRad, and one with 1/8" mildot. Very good scopes for the price, click repeatable. I Also have a Khales 10-50×56 FT. The Sightrons snap in and out at longer distances, the Kahles snaps in and out at shorter distances. The Khales does take a little finesse and practice to use at longer distances. I also had an earlier Falcon 10-50 FT, and halfway through a Crosman match the parallax died. When the match started, the distance between 40 and 55 on the sidewheel was 1 1/2". As the match progressed, those same distances were only within 3/8", and discerning between 40 and 50 was impossible.

No they are not. The MRAD one was reparallaxed by the previous owner, the Mil dot version is stock. It focuses at 10 1/2 yards. If its turned all the way down, and blurry, you know it's 10 yards. This is at 50x. Turn the scope mag down to 30, clear as a bell for you to take the shot.

The Sightron is a proven scope with a lifetime waranty. Mine has the mil hash reticle and mrads for clicks. It's the field target model and ranges from 10-300yds. It also has the illuminated center dot which helps tremendously on dark lanes. I bet mine is still on from the PA Cup. 

Another option in the price range is the new Delta Stryker 5-50×56. I've not looked through one but last years springer champ at worlds used one. 

The next step up is one of the March, Khales or if you're adventurous a Shmidt and Bender. 

Regardless of brand each has a temperature shift range high and low the will lead to miss ranging if your not paying attention. 

I would suggest buying used to figure out which you like the most. That way you won't be out much if any money figuring it out.

I have the 10 to 55 parallax on my Thomas. And had the other one reparallaxed to 10 to 300 for the Royale. Also have one on my Boss. Love the SIII's

I have a Deltra Stryker Compact 4.5-30x56 FFP & I really like it... even more than my Athlon Cronus. Good to know their Target model is good too.

I've looked through Paul Crays new Delta 5-50. It has a VERY thin crosshair, that for me, is rather difficult to pick up unless the illumination is on. I have the 2 Sightrons and the Khales, and I can safely say that the MRAD does have a slight temperature shift, while the Mil dot version has none that I can detect. The Khales has no temperature shift, and that's the main reason why I went with it over a Schmidt and Bender, because they do have a noticeable temperature shift, and their price is similar, I went with the Kahles. The reticle on the Kahles is a cross between the thinner Delta, and the Sightron. It's not a busy reticle, but the calibrations are useful to the Field Target shooter. Here's a picture of the reticle with illumination on, the reticle is black otherwise.

Temperature shift is when the scope heats up or cools down and gives different range results. This is caused by the glass, gearing(side a/o) or both changing size and shape ever so slightly with the change in temperature. While a yard or two out hunting may not be a big deal it is in FT. The difference between 53 and 55yds when range finding can be a hit, or miss.

I do like the Sightrons I have tried and still have. I prefer a cross center unless the center dot is illuminated. The illuminated versions are more rare and are usually much more expensive, so I don’t have one of those. 

I love the SIII for the price, but love the parallax adjustment in the SV. I had a S&B, but didn’t feel like it was worth the premium price for my uses. 

I have a Delta coming soon, so it will be fun to compare it. I am not a fan of a very thin crosshair, so I am interested to see what it is like. 

Tom - I like that Kahles reticle! I’ve never seen that one.

This is the standard Kahles Field Target reticle, they have another 10-50 target model, that one has a side focus and different reticles. The Khales Field Target model with the top wheel, only comes with the one reticle that I've shown above.

Sightron 10-50x60 is the most popular scope at Worlds Field Target Championship 2019 in England. I was able to try the Falcon X50 (not the older T50) on Cameron Kerndt’s HW97K. It looks like it was made from the same place as the Sightron but without illumination. I would buy one if I had only $900 spend. I also tried a Delta Stryker on John Farbrother’s TX200 rifle. I had no problem seeing the reticle but it had a narrower field of view than the Sightron. Both are good alternatives. I have a used Leupold 35x and like it as well.

I have Schmidt and Bender with Marstro adjustable pointer. The pointer allows you to calibtate the scope for existing temperature. Once this is done the scope ranges dead on. 1/4 clicks are better because you get all clicks in less than one elevation knob rotation.Clearity is a little. better than my fixed Nightforce 36X Field Target.. I own 3 Nightforces .If you can find a used one , jump on it.

I use a Sightron Slll with a 10 - 55 yard (slightly over 55) parallax. 

I don't have anything to compare it to. I think it range finds great. Definitely need to keep steady on the eye relief though, or you loose the picture.
