For those of you already shooting from tripods using adapters to mount your rifle’s picatinny or arca rails I have some questions. Considering that the rails on the underside of rifle stocks are generally attached toward the muzzle for mounting bipods, lights, etc (on some air rifles there are picatinny adapters or clamps that go around the air tube or bottle in the same area), how does the rifle handle stress from the imbalance of the rifle mounted to the tripod in this fashion? Anyone encounter issues or damage from the stress of the weight of the butt-end causing screws holding the rails to pull away from their stocks (especially a wooden stock)? Any warping, contortion, or damage to the skinny air tubes (reservoirs)? Any issues with bottles pulling down and away from the threads and leaking air? Any bent mounts or adapters? Has anyone damaged any tripods like this?
It really depends upon the rifle’s build. Some mount pretty close to the trigger guard which looks a lot mor balanced. I’m looking at a lot of theses in photos and videos, maybe they look different in person. I’ve seen photos of rifles hanging awkwardly off of tripods and wondered if the stress caused by imbalance damages parts of the air rifle. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons between rail mounting and clamp/saddle styled tripod mounting. I’m curious and haven’t come across any info about it, so I thought I’d ask you all.
