When October Goes

Guess it is all perspective. For me the end of October is the start of my outdoor life in earnest for the year.
My business is seasonal and the end of October marks the pending end of my business season.
I am not solely an air gunner. I like to fish and that chews up some time in the spring and summer months. Two weeks ago I made a trip up north to fish for steelhead and that marked the end of my fishing for the year.
Tomorrow I make my last run of the year for the business and when I get back life starts in earnest.
I have 4 pointers and it is time now to chase quail and pheasants and I may go after chukar a bit this season. Ducks will start in late December and go through close to the end of January. Once quail and duck end in January it will be time to start getting all my equipment ready for the next business season.
Big plus is the feedlots around here get very good for air gunning in the winter. Sure I have to retreat to my truck to warm up every so often but the pigeons, collared doves and starlings need calories and they will keep coming back to the feed bunks for more easy food.
Winter ain’t so bad if you have enough to do.

I was just listening to Diane Schuur. The other night. The perfect pitch she has.
The song was actually written by Barry Manilow. She does an amazing job with it. So sentimental

I enjoy 4 seasons here in central PA

Very fortunate to have a good Jazz/Classical station

October is all about squirrel hunting for me. I try to get in as much tree rat hunting as possible between work and family. November means get out there some more (between all the rain & wind) because starting at Thanksgiving, have to don the hunter orange and try to avoid corn liquor swilling deer hunters.

I must have been living under a rock, I never heard of Diane Schuur? LOL

Before October goes, I've already been on the ice a few weeks playing hockey. My bro-in-law turned 60 today so we spent the afternoon, sipping drinks in the backyard and playing Minute To Win It games......Not warm but wasn't too cool either!
Classic jazz vocalist ,not of mainstream music but afficianados and audiophiles use her as demo material..

she is blind but it has been said she has Pitch perfect vocal control..

among this hobby I’ve got another far more expensive one that involves music.

I actually start to slow down on my fox squirrel 🐿 as Torpor approaches .. I like keeping breeders for the spring. I don’t let up on the pines or reds as some call them. As for deer hunting. You hit the nail on the head..

I love October and April the most. September and May are next.
My birth month id October and it has been my favorite for many of my 79 years. The way the weather has been getting, I am beginning to shift more toward November, but it's still too warm here in E. Texas. I often wish we had a true four seasons here instead of summer one day and winter the next here, then vice versa.

Funny you mention leaving breeders - the WMA near my house is almost exclusively gray squirrel populated. I have seen one or two fox squirrels on the far end of the property closer to residential subdivisions, but I give them a pass. But if it's a gray, the hunt is on!

Exactly. They are the breeders of the black phase too .. Both are more damaging to my eco system and chew on my antlers hanging on my fence.
