When you decide to sell or trade - research first

Have a new club shooter... Field Target but he will be new to Airguns in general AND PCP's. He's always been a open carry guy so... gun ownership is not an issue.
Anyway, i had an opportunity to show and tell some various airguns to him this weekend and offer him an intro package. His brother already shoots Field Target using a custom Marauder. A nice Marauder with a field target stock is a great first choice and of course a nice Hawke scope also helps to make for a more pleasant starting point. This particular Marauder shoots very well see 25 yard sight in card 10 shots.

Here is a pretty basic breakdown of what a low cost field target package might look like; please note i do not have a customized mag side wheel on this yet but that usually adds about $160.00 unless you know how to 3D print one yourself. The retail as pictured was right about $1711.00 no wheel. 50% of that or $750.00 used seems spot on.
Your thoughts?

I totally agree with your assessment . I also totally agree with WM's post #2 used is used (with the exception of Antique high end )

I agree. Some members overprice their used guns. Personally, I have better luck with AOA for as used gun purchases. For one, they are going to make sure they do a function check and test before shipping it out. There’s usually a warranty on the gun.
Agree…A of A is generally (other than the two original Vulcans they have listed currently) are super down to earth with their used pricing. They directly list condition and in my experience if you call and not just order online they will give you a warranty no extra charge. My feelings toward the other major used gun selling vendor are completely opposite.

In my quarter-century as an enthusiastic Field Target, Pistol Field Target and Extreme Rifle and Pistol Field Target ambassador/recruiter, my success probably averages about 1 - 2 recruits per year. And although I consider that success rate somewhere between laughable 😂 and abysmal 😵, upon reflection I can say what I've lacked in quantity I've made up for in QUALITY. Some highlights of my Field Target unofficial ambassadorship-

1) Brought Field Target to Texas, virtue of co-founding the first FT club in the state (the Central Texas Airgun club).
2) Founded Pistol Field Target competition.
3) Served on the Pistol Field Target rules committee responsible for most PFT rules adopted by AAFTA.
4) Overthrew the PFT rules committee chairman in a hostile coup, in order to complete the PFT rules committee's work in time to submit to the AAFTA Board of Governors for consideration.
5) Was largely responsible for increasing the Hunter Class scope magnification limit from 12x to 16X by heavily influencing the Chairman of the AAFTA BoG.
6) Was largely, though INADVERTANTLY🤤 responsible for the bipod rule-change that ended Hunter Class domination by prone shooters, by heavily influencing the Chairman of the AAFTA BoG.
7) Brought Extreme Field Target to Texas, virtue of founding TEXtreme Airgun Sports.
8) Founded Extreme Pistol Field Target competition.
9) Directly spawned at least two, and indirectly as many as five other Field Target Clubs founded by individuals that I introduced and/or mentored in Field Target.
10) Arguably spawned two AAFTA governors that I introduced and/or mentored in Field Target; both of whom ascended to position of AAFTA Chairman.
11) ("my amp goes to 11") Included multiple chapters (and countless mentions) specific to Field Target in multiple books on airgunning and shooting.
12) (correction- 12) Continue sharing and spreading the FT and airgun competitions wealth, virtue of hosting monthly TEXtreme Field Target and Bench-Rest Silhouette airgun competitions, contributions to this forum, expertise and advice to various Powers That Be, and anyone else interested in hearing about Field Target.

I'll take this opportunity to thank Cavedweller for all your contributions to this forum, and wish you well in the search for a venue to bring FT to Alabama. Also the AAFTA governors and all FT match directors doing thankless yeoman's work to bring us incalculable amounts of airgun fun; without whom airgunning would be something less than it is. Correction- MUCH less than it is! How so? THINK about it.

HINT- Field Target has been the main driver of airgun evolution since Dr. Robert Beeman.

No. In fact from what I can tell, he didn't do much shooting.

However, he was an excellent marketeer that for all intents and purposes introduced 'adult airguns' (his term, I believe) to Americans. And although I don't agree with all his methods and statements, there's no denying his influences on and contributions to American airgunning.

That so, it occurs to me I should add a thirteenth feather to my airgunning cap-

13) After purchasing my first book, Dr. Beeman stated in his blog (as close to verbatim as I can recall), "Some folks accuse me of hubris, but Ron makes me seem like a shrinking violet!" 🤣

Obviously the man also had a great sense of humor; a sure sign of high intellect.

R.I.P. Dr. Beeman!

$750 for that setup seems like an appealing entry-level price for sure. The uninitiated may balk. Think about how many deals you saw and passed up when you were new to the hobby.
Though I definitely qualify as uninitiated in Field Target. My initial thought was that this one be a fine, compentitive rig for an astute, first timer to the field target game…

Hello all! This thread was my first stop as a new member. A couple years ago, I got a settlement for an automobile accident. Like most middle aged men, I spent most of the money stupidly haha. Many of my purchases revolved around AirForce Texan brand of products. After MUCH research, I opted for the .457 SS model. I literally bought every accessory off their site: extra CF bottle, bipod, some compressor attachment thing I've never used, every rail combo they had, a small SCUBA compressor for the bottles, a carry bag, extra shroud. And THEN, I spent another $1,000 on projectiles: Alcobullets and PRO Slugs. All manner of grains...from 300-420gr. (not sure if those companies are reputable, but I got drawn in because their websites said big words like "NANO COATED" and "CNC MACHINED". They seem to group just fine for me so idk.
My main reason for making an account or mentioning any of this at all is because I just don't use it and it'll be placed in the Classifieds.
I can't remember the total cost out the door for everything. Guessing...with projectiles...close to $3k....maybe a tad more. I'm old enough to know "used is used" but can any member here, assuming everything is 100%, tell me what a fair asking price on this site would be? Just want a good deal for both sides without the need for haggling or other nonsense. Is it even worth anything at all lol? It's been a couple years now and have no idea what new or better air rifles have come on the market. In 2023, the .457 SS was King of the Hill with some minor debate about some other brands .50 that was all the rage...can't remember it's name.
Anyway, glad to be here and hope some member will help a noob out here. Thanks!

It’s a willing buyer and a willing seller thing
good luck… my rule is 50% of retail if you want to sell it quickly

50% was right where I was thinking tbh. It's no about recouping it all really. It's mostly just to get it gone because I can't really use it here in Dallas/FW whereas before the move, I lived in Upstate NY where you could fire it out your front door. Thanks for the advice!
