Where are all the fly hunters????

Absolutely.

In the house...the Bug-a-Salt.

I shoot them when they land on my target.

Sometimes I bait them with some syrup or honey.

I don’t shoot the bees, though.

This one was shot with the .25 Marauder at 25 yards:

That's pretty awesome! How far do you set up? We usually stat at 20 yard and move back from there. Honey seems to work pretty well for bait.

2018 i came in USA in Michigan for work for 6 months with my wife.I bought thr first week a rimfire 22 magnum and the afternoons I was almost daily in the range. One day while I was zeroing the scope at 50 yards one big fly landed in the target. The funny thing is that I was kidding with the guy was shooting beside me . I told him " look whats gonna happen to this fly"!!!. I see in his face that he laugh on me but same time he was watching my target through his scope.I took the shot and I see a big splash in the target. He start shouting to everybody!!! The crazy Greek hit the fly!!! To be honest I didnt expect to hit the fly .I was a ittle bit lucky ! By the way next day I became father first time to two wonderful daughters .

Have been doing it for many years - inside the house.

We have a cattle farm and an old, restored home from the 1790s. Each fall, flies congregate by the thousands on the north side of the house and squirm their way under the clapboards to lay eggs which hatch in the spring. Some of them then migrate inside. Nasty.

What to do? CO2!

We use a couple of Co2 pistols to play - wait for it - fly bumper pool! The muzzle blast (no pellet, of course) from a few feet away rocks their tiny world. The gas seems to kinda freeze dry them and they bounce from a piece of furniture to a wall or ceiling - or both. The more bounces - the more points you score. How demented is that?

A word of caution. You have to learn the stand off distance to assure that they ricochet, rather than splat. If the carapace breaks, you have to remove fly guts from the wall with sanitary wipes. Otherwise, a broom and dustpan or vacuum make cleanup quick and easy.

Heh, heh, heh.

I am going to lose sleep until I try this, Couple weeks early for fly season.
Reminds me. In the early 90’s I had a cottage on piers, had it lifted moved, a basement built and the cottage put back on top of basement. I vacuumed the underside which was now the basement ceiling. DO NOT EVER DO THIS. I Had Dock Spiders in my basement. I bought three Ruko repeater 20 shot pellet guns and I hunted spiders in my basement. Six was my record. You couldn’t fit two on a dollar bill. Crow

We use squirrel guts in a bucket when the season is open. Skin and gut your squirrels and put it all in a bucket. Fill the bucket with water until the hides and entrails are just about to overflow. Put a white piece of cardboard behind the bucket for the flies to land on and go to town. In warm weather in August it only takes 10 minutes for a few hundred flies to show up. I will try the boiled egg trick to see if its any better

Here’s some last year’s hunts lol. I’m planning on getting some real trophies this year. My favorite set up is my Theoben .20 and 50X scope so you can see the crosshairs on the fly lol. As far as the best bait goes I find there’s nothing better than a dead squirrel, the flys start showing up quickly. And a few shots into a squirrel that’s baking in the sun will really bring in the flys, and later in the summer yellow jackets too. Always makes for a great shooting session.

Gents,

Confirmed fly hunting nut, right here. I shoot my tuned down 22 caliber Brocock Sniper, shooting off of shooting sticks and sitting on a 5 gallon bucket. Pellets are Hades, which makes for violent expansion. Well...the pellets don't expand, but the flies sure do! Makes for good rat/squirrel shooting practice.

Backstop is a plastic, bathroom sized trash can filled with rubber mulch, and a piece of plain white heavy-stock paper smeared with honey. This set-up his highly portable, allowing one to move about and follow the fly migrations.

For a further attractant, fresh, steaming Backyard Wrinklebacks, courtesy of our dogs, are placed in front of the target.

WARNING: Shooting flys off of fresh, steaming Backyard Wrinklebacks can make a less than pleasant mess of your backstop!
