Where do you live and do you like it there?

I have a slightly different take. I don’t think Michigan is that windy most of the time. Especially compared to out west where you are and yes the weather is a bit crappy 6 months of the year. However, the winter is nothing compared to Montana and nothing compared to what it used to be even here years ago. I live in central southern lower Michigan and used the snow blower like 2-3 times this whole year. As long as you are below midland the weather isn’t that bad. You have a great walleye, salmon and Muskie fisheries if you are into that too. The major downside is the state is getting more and more purple for sure.

Idaho, I have lived all of my 63 years here and no longer care for it.
Lots of people moving here so I guess it is better than where they moved from? For how long? Guess that is all a matter of perspective. How bad was it where they came from?
I don’t blame them for moving. I have visited a few big cities and I could not live in them, but the Boise valley is getting bad fast.
I used to think that Idaho was paradise. Now it is just another place to live.

I live in Great Falls, MT. It's winter for 6 months and windy all the time. Like really windy. I am ready for a move. My wife says she likes Michagan mainly because of the kind of properties she is finding for $300-400k. I am willong to spend up to $500k but I don't want wind, I don't want 6 months of winter, and I don't want venomous snakes or gators. We have a lot of rattlesnakes in central Montana. I lost my dog to one in my backyard 2 years ago.
This, except I m in Bozeman, about3 hours south of Great Falls. Still lots of winter, just not as windy. ITs cold, as Cody mentioned, a lot of the year. Cant move (or maybe, rather, the Wife wont move) as the wife's business is very much centered around YNP, Grand Tetons and the surrounding areas. Im convinced that no matter where you llive, there's gonna be something thats gonna try to kill you.... like earthquakes (Montana is the 4th most seismically active state, CA, AK and HI being the first 3), bears and we set on top of the Yellowstone supervolcano....

Its truly a sportsman's paradise. hunting, fishing, skiiing, snow mobiling, hiking/camping....

Cody, what are your requirements? weather and snakes are easy to get around, but work and play may be more important. if you need to work, then NY and Cali. are the main money states. if you're financially stable and want land then look more mid south from missouri to NC. there are great places in every state, it all depends on what you value most. if you like snow, vermont and NH are still free states. don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you don't like a lot of wind and 6 months of snow, you won't like Michigan. In the last 4-5 years Michigan has gone totally socialist and I am afraid airguns are on the menu. It was just a few years ago we got airguns removed from the firearms category, but that may change soon. Michigan weather can be nice at times, and the autumns are gorgeous. Only one rare rattlesnake here and it is small and uncommon. Anyways, I'd recommend doing more research before you move here. Michigan has a very large contingent of people moving out due to high taxes, high gas price, high cost of living and ridiculous politics.
...no politics here?

Cali and new york are about the most anti gun states so I would pass on those two. I am not wanting much wind and would prefer a little warmer winters than Montana. Public lands have been messed up so I want to buy a property with no less than 10 acres kind of forested so I can have my own sanctuary. I want to be within 15 minutes of a 25,000+ populas town/city.

I’m in N Texas. My little town had 1800 residents when we moved here from California in 88’ It was nice and a great place for the kids to grow up and go to school. Today we have >30k people here. Kids are grown and gone. I retired from Lockheed 5 yrs ago, now waiting for the wife to retire. Texas was good to us, but it’s not friendly here anymore. The locals are clannish and driving the roads is a blood sport. Just can’t recommend it anymore.

@CharlieF - okay we live in the same state, your from Hoover .... but .... In Mobile Al. my city ordinance reads: may not discharge ANY metal projectile from anything (gun/slingshot/crossbow) etc ... within the city limits.. outside the city limits... who cares.
Law changed, you are correct, but no one enforces it unless you get stupid. Act stupid, win a stupid prize.

Here in west michigan would be perfect if winter only lasted 4 months instead of 6, but again we only had to snow blow maybe 2-3 times every year for past 10 years, enough trees to slow down windy days to allow shooting, if the corrupt voting ever gets straight it would most certainly be a red state, alot of goood people here near grand haven, township living is good.

In truth it is hard to beat Cailf. for weather ,fun and things to do,uh a big butt, is too expensive.
The Clear Lake region is affordable.
I do not pay too much attention to Ca. poilitics, too busy fishing and shooting, going to car shows,etc....
Reno NV. got expensive, but down the road is still affordable.
Truthfully I am a West Coast guy, though can be more expensive to live here it is worth it =if you like the outdoors and Mother Nature. The Pacific NorthWest is beautiful, lived in Puget Sound.
My friends in Texas love Texas, but know "we have better weather.
Because many people in CA. lost their homes in the big fires here ;some moved to the Southern states, like Tenn. They are happy there.
They say happeness is where you it,unfortunately many can not afford it.o_O
I will give you a tip,if you are a older person,Rio Vista,Ca. average 65yo....on the Sacramento River.Plenty of places to shoot and fish.
