Where do you shoot?

My own backyard is quite small and I can comfortably shoot to about 16 yards. I shoot from inside the house out the kitchen window. The muzzle stays a few feet inside the house so it is very quiet for all my neighbors. But a quick 20 minutes away is my parents place and there I can easily shoot over 100 yards and don't need to worry much about noise.

That is awesome, my folks have a bit of land and shooting has been a great bonding experience for us.

My back porch have targets 35-75yds into the woods

Wishing I had more land so I didn't have to worry about noise as much but I am curious what your scenario is?
I started looking for property with enough land to shoot on about 10 years ago. You can imagine how expensive and rare that is in the Bay Area in California. In a way, I guess I'm lucky because I shoot Field Target and I only needed a max of 55 yards.

I found a large enough property with a reasonable commute about 7 years ago. It wasn't cheap. Looking back, if I had to do it over again, I would not have bought this property. We are putting a good chunk of our retirement into the property and I guess we are betting on the stability of the real estate market to be able to pull our retirement out of it...in 10-15 years? (oh and I had to keep the other half happy ...it had to be in a nice part of town, the yard can't be a "jungle", it can't be near "industries= airport, power lines, rail roads...etc", it can't be too hilly). Thinking back, it was a miracle that I found this place.

BUT

Shooting wise, it's great not to worry about packing and driving 1 hr to the range to shoot. It's very relaxing to be able to set up your target and have some quite time to get to know your air rifle and improve your shooting ability.

Another scenario me and my shooting buddy toyed around with was finding raw land outside the city and splitting the cost 50/50. We were targeting acreage, we were planning to justify this investment to our wives by saying we could do occasional family camping on this land. Mine saw the real reason right away...YOU JUST WANT A PLACE TO SHOOT. LOL...damn I married a smart woman.

After our house was payed off in '87, I was 32, wife and I decided to buy land (smartest move I ever made) 20 ac hay fields with some woods (45k)...in north central Fla...Liquidated everything in '99 and moved to Tennessee built house and bought 120ac farm (110k) paradise for hunting and shooting...stayed in Tenn 21 years and retired...Liquidated everything again (folks from California were fighting over our Tenn house, and sold farm to guy from NY) and retired back to Fla...my father in law passed shortly after we moved here and left us his 10ac mini farm so we didn't have to buy property again...I've been shooting there during visits for decaids...We're in process of selling our house on Ceder Key and building our (her) dream house there...I can shoot any where on the property. There's nothing more satisfying than owning private property...the demand and cost these days staggers the imagination...for houses and land (this area any way)

...never was easy to do. BUY LAND as far away from the big cities as possiable...you'll be glad you did!

I will think of this thread as I go out to mow around the immediate property this Sunday. I’m blessed to be able to shoot out to 102 yards from my humble deck. If I setup out back? At least 200 yards, but that would be work and I like just stepping out the door and shooting in comfort. That said, I remind myself how fortunate I am as I weed whack and mow.

in the yard, semi-rural .. i do worry about noise and backstop, thats why i got into airguns .. its actually legal to shoot pb where im at, but there are neighbors, for one i dont want them to know i have guns or when im wasting 'fluffy' for eating my chickens, and for two making noise can go both ways if its aggravating someone, so really dont need that kindof feud going on where i live ...

At home there is no shooting. I just cannot get comfortable shooting in the backyard in a subdivision of 1/4 acre lots. To each their own.
Thankfully I can drive ten minutes and shoot any distance I want to.
When we go to the ranch, sky is the limit. from the back porch 180 yards. Move off the porch and I can get a very safe 200 yards with a solid backstop.
If I want to drive anywhere on the property I can get a wide variety of settings and distances.
We were out there yesterday and when the work was done it was pigeons off haystacks for a bit, then off to the top of the place and pigeons off a rock face At varying distances. I don’t spend a lot of time shooting paper targets. Zero or verify zero then off to the field I go.
