I’m looking for opinions on the best chronograph for benchrest shooting. I used an FX Ballistic Chrony at the Pyramyd Benchrest Finals, but it didn’t work well—it picked up other shooters’ shots, missed mine, and then locked up my phone app. I could have adjusted the sensitivity, but I didn’t want to get distracted during the finals. I realized my poor performance in the second qualifying round was likely due to a change in velocity (I just eeked into the finals), which I fixed during the warm-up for the finals. Moving forward, I plan to mount a chrony on the side or bottom rail.
I have the original FX Pocket Chrony, which has been reliable, but I’m considering upgrading to the Garmin Xero. Many users report zero issues with the Xero. Has anyone used the Xero in a crowded benchrest setting? Any issues with interference or missed shots?
Other options I’m considering are the FX V2 Pocket Chrony and the Labradar LX. The FX V2 is cheaper (I don't mind using my phone for readings), but I’m unsure how it would perform in a congested benchrest environment. The Labradar LX is intriguing because it offers readings at 20 to 30 yards in addition to the 0-yard reading, which could be useful for BC calculations. However, I’ve heard it has issues with missed shots, similar to the original Labradar. Any experience with the Labradar LX in benchrest?
Any suggestions or experiences to share?
Thanks!
