Which Daystate for FT

Skip - What class will you be shooting in?

Daystate stocks are all beautiful pieces of walnut, but are hunter designs, with a rounded forend, so great if you are in hunter class shooting off sticks, but not so good for open, WFTF or unlimited (in US). If you need an adjustable forend (hamster) or butt hook, it will not be easy to mount these to your stock (ask me, I know).

Another consideration is whether you are prepared to shoot an unregulated gun in FT, where you need high accuracy over 60 or 72 shots. I shoot a Daystate Huntsman Regal, and while its capable of better than 1/2" groups at 50 yds, you have to stay within the flat part of the sling shot curve to achieve this, which would be a pain for FT. You could of course add a regulator, and if you are shooting 177 at 12 ft/lbs this would be much less of an issue.

I'm using an AirWolf 0.22 set at 19 ft lbs for FT. Its a masochistic exercise, because although the gun is very accurate, with a very reproducible and long shot string, the stock is fra from ideal for FT. I don't have a good cheek weld with the scope and rings I'm using (Sightron SIII 10-50 x60 FX no limit rings), and I'm currently working on getting a hamster installed to shoot in open class.

The bottom line: I'm a huge Daystate fan, and own a couple of their rifles, and although its possible to score well, but there may be better options for FT.

If you already know all of this apologies for the long respone.

"Skip-in-WV"My wife shoots a Regal in Hunter class. I shoot Open class. I have an Airwolf and a Mk4 Panther. I wanted to get away from the electronic ones. One of these would be a backup rifle both of us can use.
Very nice rifles! I think that the Air Ranger is a high power gun, so not suitable for FT? If that's correct you are limited to the Wolverine.
Why do you want a backup for the Air Wolf and Mk4? Is it to avoid potential problems when it rains?

For open class with the Air Wolf, do you use an adjustable forestock?

CONSIDER THE CRX , CR97 OR CRX-ST

CR= COMPETITION RIFLE

This CRX shoots 20 shots at 50 yds under a nickel, unsorted JSB 10.3 from Field Target position.

My wife uses a Wolverine R for Open and does quite well. I like it a lot, also, though I'm sticking with the Tsar at the moment. We both like a low action without all the doodads and it works quite well. Another guy in our matches uses an Air Ranger and I really don't see the difference. I'm not sure , but seems like the Air Ranger preceded the Wolverine and was predominately a high power rifle but became the Wolverine B by changing stocks? Well, after looking them both up to refresh the memory , I don't see any difference except the name. It would be interesting for someone to chime in and enlighten us.

My wife shoots off her knee with a pad and I shoot off my arm so the rounded fore end is not a disadvantage. Her W R is one of the most pleasant and accurate rifles I've personally shot, for whatever that's worth. MUCH nicer than my Tsar, even though not as adjustable.

I don't think you could go wrong either way .
