Tuning Which is better? Desiccant or cotton filter

I am going to add a filter to my hand pump. I noticed that I can choose between the desiccant which goes on the air intake or the cotton filter which is on the output side. 

Which is better or should I do both?

Both will help. The desiccant will dry the air slightly before it is compressed and heated. The Cotton filter on the back side will help remove oil and moisture.

Both. Having a desiccant filter alone will soak up the moisture and oil really quick. Having the cotton alone won't catch most of the moisture. So why not combine them. I use cotton filter as first stage to capture most of the oils and moisture then the air will then go into the desiccant filter to be dry up before going into the gun.

Any filter you put in the output line will be exponentially better than something on the input line which will do very little no matter what it is. Hand pumps are rough to filter as every little bit of volume you use for a filter means bunches of extra pumping. 

Think seriously about a Yong Heng compressor they are inexpensive, werq very well and are probly the best out there for under $1000 yet they are just over $300.

Both, I have a jug of desiccant I use when needed to replace old desiccant, don't through away Desiccant, you can recycle it by placing it in the oven at 250* for 20 minutes or put it in the microwave for 2-1/2 minutes on medium, put it back in a sealed bottle to keep it fresh......
