Which one is most quiet?

I have been considering a Taipan Veteran in .22 for a bit. I do live in an urban setting so noise is always considered. I was also planning on running low power for safety concerns as well. So, with a power output of about 16 FPE, which would be more quiet, a long or standard? I was thinking the long would be more quiet with the longer shroud? 

I do have a Benjamin Marauder. 177 thats got the standard hop up parts installed and I'm running that at 16 fpe. I find that an exceptable sound level with factory shroud/baffles. Ive used my springers in the backyard but they are a bit too loud. 
 
I installed Daystate Renegade baffles into my RTI Prophet Compact, it made it my quietest rifle. Not the proverbial "mouse fart" quiet that people talk about. But I could "probably" go into the backyard and shoot it without bothering the neighbors...and I live in the city..!

So not only is the RTI Compact small, light, great to shoot, accurate, with a few dollars in baffles, it's even very quiet.

Hey, thanks for the input! My Marauder is plenty quiet, its just a bit long. I was looking for the same sound level or quieter. And I must have absolute accuracy so I dont send a cripple off running. I am also considering the Vet standard in .177 as its probably the most sensible for my backyard pesting needs. And the .177 is a bit more quiet on impact!

Honestly I lost count about 5-6 mags. I fill to 200 and run it down to 150, then refill. Next time I shoot my 22 I'll count how many mags and let you know. The reg is factory set.

I also have a 177 standard taipan shooting about 750fps.. its pretty quiet also. Both are super backyard friendly.

The 177, has a Huma and is set to 90. I get about 8 or more mags to the fill. Its great for shooting paper!

I have Veteran Standard in .22. With an additional silencer it is extremely quiet. That said, for yard use, a .177 is going to be quieter, and will be operating at about the power level you want. For yard squirrel removal, I usually choose my HW100 in .177, and it's perfect.

So I have the DonnyFL adaptors for my taipans.. and I have numerous moderators to test the quietness, as long as your not shooting above 800ish fps, the stock baffles do the job. Anything over 850fps you can benefit from a sumo or a fx DonnyFL. 



Being honest, sometimes I feel the 22 is quieter than my 177. Not sure why.. but that's just how it sounds from a shooting position. I have the 177 shooting slow also for everyday use, unless im pesting then I turn them up so I get the FPE I need to knockout iguanas. I made the mistake of cranking my 177 up to max power one day just testing it with my chronograph, had the pellet shooting about 1150fps.. holy smokes, sounds like a 22LR going off.. Dont do that! LOL

I guess the real question is why do you want a .22, if the .177 Mrod is serving your needs? (smile)

Just curious as you did not state why you want a .22?

Well Backstop, you got me there😉. Its like anything, bigger is better. And, I do find the .22 pellets easier to handle. If I am really honest, my old Diana 24 in .177 did what I needed. But, you know, I had to have a 36 in .177. Then I had to have another 36 in .22. Then, hey, whats that Rekord trigger really like? And we all know where we end up...asking questions about our next one we HAVE to have. The Marauder is my only PCP and it does what I need, but feel I have to try .22 PCP.

I was in the same boat. I have a Marauder .177 for pesting in a downtown neighborhood. But I agree that with a silencer, it's a bit long. I got a Taipan Veteran .22 Standard a couple weeks ago. Love the size, the performance, and the build quality. And with a Sumo on it, it is just as quiet as the Marauder. I hit a rabbit with a solid body shot last week and the impact at 20 yards was louder than the gun.

I shoot 25 in my yard, but its a little too hot for urban environments even when turned down. Stick with the 22. You will be happy with that caliber!



Ive also had Mauraders in both 22 and 25 calibers. 22 wasn't bad, but the taipan is much quieter than the marauder. The 25.. needed a DonnyFL on the front otherwise I wouldn't shoot it much as it was loud for my neighborhood.
