Agreed! If you can find one!!!

If you intend to primarily target shoot from a rest, then I’d suggest the hw97k. Mine in .177 is my most accurate spring gun (also own R7, hw50s, AA pro sport). But if you will also be hunting in addition to target shooting, then I’d go with an R9/hw95 in .177. The loss just a pound or two makes a big difference if you are carrying in the field.

Thank you very much. Just target shooting for me. Will be trying out some FT in December. Might go with the TX200 instead...

Get the 97 in.22,the 98 is great to, but I believe it is a "fixed": up 95.
Now about the 97 ,got the black thumbhole stock ,fits good, but I bought a LTD stock for it,very nice.
The 98 already has the nice stock.
Do have a R-9 in.20 wow,it is sweet....
Recap, the 98 fine as is,97.in 22 better hunter and some fine custom stocks and tune kits available.
Result: in time you will properly have Both.

I have both in .177 and set them up for target shooting with 12 ft lbs kits. With the right pellet combination each is capable of 1 hole groups at 25 yards. Out of the box I find the 97 easier to shoot rested even though the has the barrel sleeve. My 98 has barrel droop and uses a compensated scope mount. I like both but if I had to pick one to keep it would be my 97.

That 98 shoots shells?o_O

The 97K is often preferred above the TX200, due to the noisy anti bear trap on the TX200 putting of the hunter, but for field target its about even. I prefer all 3 above the Walther creations, due to the weak trigger block unit which has no more build quality to it than a Crosman 2200 receiver…some have started failing, cracking around the area which holds the guide rod and also the trigger pivot….

The 98 probably has the finest lock up of any break barrel. I think this is a combination of a great lock up coming from the 95 components, but utilising a shorter, bull barrel, reducing much of the resonance present in the 95… Suffice to say, it clunks up like a good shotgun.
If you ease off on the breech seal thickness it can take out much of the droop and is probably a safer handling rifle under field use to being able to break the gun open and no finger crop breech opening.

The 97 needs to be the K variant as i find the full length version a tad muzzle heavy, but by utilising a decent tuning kit, its pretty much unbeatable as a springer…Total reliable repeatability.
For me, 97K, TX200, 98
