Which scope rings for PP700 ?

Hi all,



I'm feel like I'm late to the party, but am excited as I'm about to receive my PP 700. I'm hoping to learn from some of the folks here who have some experience with this pistol.

First question: I have a nice Bushnell 2-6 x 32mm scope I want to try putting on it for ammo testing. BUT, I am not sure what height of rings to buy, though.



I was thinking of the Sportsmatch 2 PIECE MEDIUM SINGLE SCREW ( TO1C ) , but am not sure if these are tall enough for this scope ?

If not, I would likely than go with the 2 PIECE HIGH set (SM-HTO8C).



If anyone has mounted a similar sized scope on this pistol, I'd be most grateful if you could please mention which size of rings you used.

For what it’s worth, I went with a 1pc mount to lock the receiver and shroud together to ensure I would not get a wandering POI from the the little bumps and scrapes that may otherwise cause the barrel to shift.

I use see through mounts on my scoped pistols, having them on both a pp700 and an HW44 and they work great for both. It allows one to use open sights for very accurate close range shots (assuming the shooter's vision allows such) and then you can switch to the scope for slightly longer range shots. It can be difficult to get a usable zero at closer ranges (common pistol range?) and thus needing to "hold over" to hit targets close to you can be an issue for scoped pistols. Also, pellet rise above line of sight can make hitting a small target hard with a scoped pistol if it is able to be zeroed at a close range and the target is just a bit further away. If one isn't going to use the open sights at all and/or they want to shoot the pistol at very long ranges for a pistol then these type mounts wouldn't help anything. As to shroud/barrel shift, I've never experience it with my pp700 but I guess it is possible.

Hmm, yes, that IS a good point, something I never even thought to factor in. I see the posts about folks doing mods like drilling grub screws through the receiver to "lock" the barrel from moving. I sure hope that isn't in my future !

But maybe a one piece mount should be something I should look at ? Hmm. I always thought that the one piece added some unnecessary height to it, but I will admit to not paying too much attention. For that reason, I didn't really consider see-through sights, either, but I see the logic definitely.

I first put an Eagle Vision dovetail-to-picatinny rail adaptor on the pistol's dovetail.

For that I had to dremel the channels in the shroud a little so the rail adaptor would fit. This secured shroud/barrel against the bumps nervoustrig was mentioning.



Then I used the lowest picatinny mounts that offer scope cant. Those would be the Hawke match mounts, No. 22115 — with the Hawke Mount Inserts No. 22161. They give me 25MOA scope cant (fixed, not variable).



The FFP scope is a Discovery 3-12x with a 44mm objective and a 30mm tube.

This arrangement allows me to mount the scope so low that the objective bell is about 1mm (0.04") above the shroud.



By mounting it so low I bring my point blank range closer — a higher mount would move the PBR further away — undesirable for a gun that I will shot usually close to mid range — but still want to reach out long range when given the opportunity.

Yes, the see through sights are by design tall. And that can make accurate scope use at short range more of an issue so I would consider them only if you would use the open sights regularly. I like them a lot but I shoot my pistols as pistols, ie often shot at shorter range. If trying to utilize it as a carbine type setup for a predominantly longer range shooting use then getting a dedicated scope setup is probably better. As to the grub screw, I've never needed to do that and if I understand correctly it was done primarily to prevent the rear bushing from turning while TRYING to unscrew the barrel, such turning preventing easy barrel removal. I suppose it would also allow more tightening of the barrel/shrould as well if the bushing couldn't turn. I long ago changed my rear bushing to a tight press fitting bushing that was also modified in shape to take a much thicker o-ring at the breech. With this setup I have no difficulty unscrewing the barrel and I have no breech o-ring blowby. As noted, I've never noticed any shifting of barrel/shroud either before or after my bushing mod but I guess it is a possibility.
