Which Sub12 Would You Buy?

Either a RAW TM1000 or Air Arms HFT 500. These will outshoot any FX any day. I know, I've owned them all. You can buy an FX and will have to fiddle fart around with tuning and settings and get nowhere.

OP is looking for a DreamTac compact replacement and one of the options he is looking at is the path finder, basically he is looking for light weight carbines not full sized rifles. But I could be wrong.

I've shot RAW TM1000 and Air Arms 500 and they shot great but without some major internal surgeries they are inefficient at best and shot ok out of box. Out of box they won't out shoot my little dreamline but that's just my personal experience. Tuning is part of getting most out of any gun and ammo combo, no precision shooter I know shoot factory ammo out of factory guns. Unless a RAW or AA got the full treatment from @Motorhead I wouldn't touch them at all, again, just my personal opinion from my personal experience.

No, he said he was looking for a sub 12fpe gun. RAWs can be custom ordered at whatever power level you want, and the AA 500 HFT is already tuned for sub 12 fpe. If you try to screw with these two rifles, you should get your hand slapped.

No gun is perfect for every ammo and power level, I’ve tried factory raw at lower power and there are more than plenty of room for improvement. Even my Thomas got many internal upgrades and fine tuning and I know for a fact neither a Raw nor AA can outshoot my Thomas out of box, not quite close. But to each their own, I paid for my guns and I like to make/tune them the best they can be(to me) and you can you leave them as you paid for yours.

Edit: a little context for comparison: My Thomas can shoot 5 shot groups with C2C under 0.1 inch in calm condition and I do my part, basically slight oblong pellet hole. My dreamline is a week old and so far groups' C2C are under 0.177 or the pellets are touching/ragged hole but not quite as tight as I like, goal is closer to 0.1 C2C. It is settling and groups are getting a little better but will see what I can get it down to with a bit more work, it did mange a few 0.1 C2C groups but not the norm yet.

So your Thomas and FX are tuned to 12 fpe? There’s darn little room to tune in that realm other than selecting the right pellet.

Yes, tuned to 12 FPE. And yes, it shot very well already but a lighter hammer, SSG and few other little bits made it much more settled and more efficient. Obviously I didn’t do the fine tuning on my Thomas because I don’t have the machinery/skills but @Motorhead did his magic on it and couldn’t be happier. Because it’s 12 FPE the valve was not replaced.

If you don’t mind getting out your wallet for a .177, my Lelya .177 is fantastic. Except for my BSA Ultra SE, I don’t trust most platforms in .177 because those platforms were designed probably around a .22. The .177 just gets the dumbed down treatment. I prayed that Ed didn’t get lazy with the .177 in the Lelya and he didn’t. The only bad Taipans I’ve ever seen were both .177’s. My buddies Brocock Compatto .177 is a shooter so I would probably have faith in their offerings in .177. But my BSA will outshoot it. The Brocock does have more power to work with though.
Try a AA S410 amazing rugged accurate

I’m saving up my nickels and dimes for an Alpha Wolf. But one gun that seems to be a real winner is the BRK Ghost. Every thing I have seen on this gun is really positive. On Airgun 101, Sub 12 Airgun does an overview of one.
I have a ghost but on the complete opposite spectrum of what I want in this setup as it's a .30 at 100fpe

I ordered a brk atomic I think the biggest task will be making it as quiet as my dreamtac was that thing was silent.

What ammo and speed are you looking to get out of the atomic? It has a shorter barrel so it’s best at sub 700FPS. It is extremely quiet at about 600-650FPS so use heavy pellet for more power instead of speed. Need to polish and adjust the trigger, pretty easy to do but makes a huge difference. Stock trigger is very stiff, once the trigger is addressed and tuned correctly it is a very cool little carbine and it’s even short than the DTC. One thing you can’t address is it’s a bit heavier than it looks, not a show stopper and fairly easy to shoot fairly accurately even though it’s so short.

It's going to be 10fpe ish no more than 12fpe Derrick is on the trigger and tune 😁

What were your issues with the Taipan veteran compact in .177 ?

Not my issues. There were two dudes on here, maybe a year apart, that just couldn’t get their guns to shoot well. One guy for sure sent his back and it returned not shooting well. Taipans are pretty hot guns and definitely not designed around the .177 caliber so they might be a little hot and require some tuning. The baffles in the .177 are too big so that tells you something. Now we wait for 20 guys to chime in how great their .177 Taipans are but personally, and I have a Taipan, I looked elsewhere for my .177.

I own one and read about them being built off the .22 with just a barrel change. I don't believe it myself , simply because of how constant and accurate it is . Or maybe they changed something over the years. It's getting 60-70 shots at just under 18 fpe .

Here's a few shot strings with 10.3 chps .
