There are so many variables that are involved in each individual's tastes that (imho) there are no "BEST" answers that can cover it. I did months of research before spending on guns. Had "pro & con" lists of the ones I was interested in & made my decisions based upon that type of research, not on other's opinions. But, that's me.

I do the same...

I analyze A LOT before buying a new rifle. Absolutely every aspect of the rifle and of the use I will give to it.

Power, size, accuracy, shots per fill, complexity of functioning (easy or not to repair by myself), comfortable or not to shoulder, post sale need of accesories, everything!!!

Yeah, I do that and the thing still sucks or at least has issues that can't be resolved.

Telephone,
Let me suggest three for your consideration; DAR Generation 3, Air Venturi Avenger (wood stock) and the JTS Airacuda. All three are Chinese-produced, DAR and JTS from same factory. For price-point would be hard to beat Airacuda but there are some "growing pains." The new Avenge-X platform is an upcoming release that addresses Avenger issues but are priced accordingly. I'd say DAR would be the one I'd start researching first. Best of Luck, WM

There seems to be an upserge of reasonable sub 500 dollar PCP has one of these emerged as the best buy. I fancied the Airacuda then the Moderator problem surfaced and this morning somebody posted about a poor trigger. Has the Moderator problem been sorted out yet? . What is the current best buy?
I want to be clear. The trigger was bad, but this was a pre production model. I’ve come to find out that the production models have pretty decent triggers. Most triggers can benefit from a polishing, which I hear the Airacuda can as well. But only if you know what you are doing.

I have owned 2 avengers and currently have an Airacuda max in 22. Avengers were great guns for the money. Super accurate and non pellet picky. I had a dar Gen 2 that was the biggest POS rifle I’ve ever owned. The gen 3 seems very jts similar but I don’t know and will never buy another. No idea about a moderator problem? Or trigger? Shroud and trigger on the jts are great. The only problem I had and this goes with literally all three guns were screwy POI out of the box. The avengers shot super super low. I shimmed my scope and bought a donny Fl barrel adapter that supports the barrel. Made the guns great. The jts shot very high and very right. Took the barrel band completely off which helped. I also switched to a 30mm tube scope for more adj range. The gun is super consistent on speed from shot to shot and loves cheap crosman pellets to jsb 18.1. Has been great so far after minor tweaks.
