Why are women better shots ?

This may surprise some but it has been proven to me that women who listen to the instruction of experts and apply them are absolutely deadly with a rifle.

Back in 1980 when I was in the military, men and women were combined in boot camp and during qualification for weapons training there were 3 levels of shooting performance, marksmen - sharpshooter - expert.

We often got ribbed because the percentage of women who achieved expert " hitting almost every target " were greater than the percentage of men.

This exemplifies my point: I've been shooting guns religiously for over 50 years and achieved sharpshooter in the military and taught my wife to shoot 37 years ago and recently handed her my sited in PCP for a little competition. 12 shots at 12 different targets at various yardage and the last 2 targets were smaller than a dime at 25 yards. I finished with 9 hits and she finished with 12 hits.........and on to Facebook she went.

My niece is a wicked good shot. She can shoot a springer like a pcp out to 50 yards. I’ve picked her brain over the years. My conclusion is it’s quite simple, she doesn’t overthink things like men do. We gather too much information and have too much poop floating around in our heads when we shoot. We always question, is this good enough or the best way.

In helping teach handgun safety and shooting at our local PD, I have found that in general women have NOT developed any bad habits. They listen to the coaching and execute as requested, learning the correct way out of the gate. The women going through the course outshot the 'experience' men 80% of the time. Not having developed bad habits that must be retaught, they perform quite well.

They really good with the listening part.

This doesn't apply to just shooting. I've taught several of my neighbor couples how to bass fish. Each time, the female did better, caught more fish. Why? There is no ego involved and they listen to, and do what I suggest. The husbands "know how to fish" and don't want/need anyone telling them what to do

It does apply to shooting if ego prevents one from learning.

Ran into that last week while catching bass on a drop-shot and 2 guys approached in a shiny Lund and asked what bait was I using. Held it up and they said " no thankyou, we don't do finesse ". Lol oh well.

out of the adults, the women typically pick up and do better in boxing/grappling from what i've seen.

no bad habits, no ego thinking they already just "know" how to do it. so much easier to teach.

growing up, i remember hearing women were better shots also because men have naturally higher blood pressure, something about blood pressure in extremities, and the pulses taking men off target more than women. - this could just be idaho old wives tales

Not just rifles. My GF routinely whips my butt at sporting clays. I think some of the points mentioned are true here. She started with good coaching and never developed the bad habits common to the self taught. She is very consistent from shot to shot so when she misses it’s easy for me to tell her why she did. I’m trying to get her into airgun FT but right now she just enjoys breaking clay targets too much. Uj

Way back in 76 I shot on a Marine ROTC team We won state that year. Our gunnery SGT told us he could take a girl and teach her to outshoot any of us. He did she was the top shooter in the state. He later told me that he choose a girl that was mature, would listen and had no bad habits. Back then most of us boys came from hunting families and brought bad habits with us that we had learned.
