Why do folks keep bring back old dead threads?

so, how many of you read a thread and it 3 pages long do you read all the post or do you just go to the end and post
4 and 5 year old posts are getting resurrected and the new poster ask the others a question really
to tell someone to search for info is different than post on the old thread
doesn't a little common sense come in to play

The only time I get annoyed is when somebody comes along and necros a bunch of really old posts just to reply "cool", "neat", "is this still for sale?" and the like. Usually folks will have relevant comments to add to the thread which is nice.

I don’t see a problem with someone tacking a new question onto an old thread as long as it’s about the same subject. The opposite of that would be a whole bunch of threads and questions about the very same thing, just separated by time.

I believe this site even asks if there is a thread about that subject already.

On another topic forum i have lost count on how many times i have replied to questions about the same in the past 10 -15 years, and i am not talking 3-4 lines.....
Ooooo no i am talking thorough wall of text replies every god damn time, CUZ i like to do things right and empower people to make informed decisions.

Really these i should probably bookmark, and then just do a copy / paste job....... but that just dont feel right, or feel like people i complain a whole lot about.

In the US forums I don't feel the questions are excessively repetitive.

But in a few local WhatsApp chat groups for airgunners in Peru — there are sometimes 200 messages a day, on some weekends 500 messages, all bunched together, no topic separators.

So, people just can't keep up reading all that.
So, in the evening they might ask a question that was asked and got answered that very morning..... 🤦🏻‍♂️

➠ That's why I keep a document on my cellphone with standard answers to most of the typical questions:
A simple copy—paste—adapt will assist the guy looking for help — and will keep me sane at the same time. 😃

I keep seeing folks comment on old dead threads from few years ago and bring them back. Lots of the time the OP who made that thread isn't even around anymore. So seem pointless to bring back old dead threads thats already been discussed and finished. Are there rules bring back old dead threads? Not sure about AGN but some forums i know have rules against bring back old dead threads.
It’s good practice if the original thread had good quality content and you have something new or relevant to add.

Naturally if the thread is just a person asking a question, providing an answer years later is pointless.

If you have a related question to the old thread, adding to it makes for better reading when people find it later in a search and you the poster get the benefit that most of the posters already on the thread will get notifications for it.

Cold weather must have hit for this to hit three pages..........haha
Some company needs to release a new rifle to give this forum something relevant to talk about!

Drivers not knowing how to navigate four way stop sign intersections
How much are my property taxes going to increase
Hoping my mom stays healthy.......

These are what concerns or annoys me................

And yes, I get the irony of my post keeping this thread going.................... :ROFLMAO:

Ok was just asking if there is a rule against bring back old threads cause some forums do not allow it cause it flood the main pages with theads thats already been answered and dead. Usually old threads are already discussed and OP found their answers already so just seem pointless if the answer OP seek is already answered within the thread years ago. I'm pretty sure it's new users bring back these old threads but don't people look at the date it's been posted? If it's a few months old that's fine. But if it's few years ago it should be left alone.
Airguns have been around for a long time.
Some topics come up seasonally some every few years and some when someone finds a really old Airgun at a yard sale that hasn’t been discussed in a very long time.
The information is always relevant.

My search kungfu is bad. If I found an old post on a discontinued or older model, nice to ask another question or two - if they even still had the airgun etc. Otherwise, going through some of those generalized posts with 48 plus pages of anything goes replies on a particular airgun is a tough task for me to complete to see if they did answer my topic at hand. Yeah, I probably need to become more proficient at using the AN site search. However, I've met some great AN members by reviving old dead threads at times. I'm sure a few members have blocked me as well.
