Why do you buy that new gun

Why do you buy that new airgun?

We can all only shoot one at a time.

But many of us have way to many. For me it's the shooting of them and having a variety, different ones every time out. Each one is different and shoots different even when they are the same. Alot of it is the hunt for a particular gun. Getting it delivered. You open the box so carefully. Makes you feel like a kid at Christmas every time. That first pellet you shoot out of it. Tinkering on them to make them better. Just a few of my reasons/excuses for buying another.

WHAT ARE YOURS?

My current interest is .20 caliber, own 7 and always looking. It's usually random...a good deal comes along, I bid and actually win, couple were bought from fellow members on another forum, even have one I spent 6 months looking at and debating and had to order from Spain because they don't sell them here.

The forever quest to see if the next duplicate triplicate quadruplicate quintuplet is more accurate than my first one. Sextuple is my limit then give up then go to the next caliber. TRUTH!!!

Last purchase was my third LCS SK19 in 22 caliber because the seller said it does consistent sub MOA past 100 yards which my other 2 can't consistently do at 100 yards but only occasionally.

Just got this .20 a few week ago. My second. 20 Want another already. I need another F##%*% safe.

I will get one in a caliber. And say. " Wonder what a .25 would be like " then duplicate in different caliber of the same gun. Have done this on several occasions.

Because this sport is addicting and efficient. But for me, I always like to give myself a new excuse for a type of scenario I'd probably only ever be in a few times a year or lifetime, and convince myself I need this gun, just in case, I end up in this particular scenario/activity which suits this particular gun, which this activity may or may not occur, but is definitely planned...

For example, I don't live anywhere close to a place where I can freely blast off an Airforce Texan in .45/.50, nor do I live near any place that has large enough game suitable for this gun either, but my trigger finger has been feeling strong lately, and what if....I one day end up on a bear hunt, in a state nowhere close to me which allows airgun hunting, because I'm watching other people hunting on tree stands on youtube, and think this is so cool, that I'd like to give it try, and almost click the purchase button, only for reality to kick in, and tell me,,, you don't really want to go on a bear hunt because deep woods in bear country scary, especially when you have no friends to do it with,,, and then a few days later purchase the FX Impact, because high capacity magazines. That's kind of a rough thought process for what I go through when deciding on a new gun, lol!

Honestly... Most often the reason is that I'm curious. My first pcp was a diana bandit. I was really curious how bad it would be. Honestly. With lots of time, effort, and some mods, it's one of a kind, and a SUPER sweet shooter.

My FX crown, I was curious what kind of output I could get in 700mm 22 cal. I got to 65fpe with a few mods, and realized I had to detune it to about 55fpe to shoot most slugs. So, I stopped there.

My pp800 25 cal, was just so budget friendly, I got it, again, to see what kind of power I could get from it. Knowing how well the bandit turned out... That one does 28fpe on current tune (9" barrel) and is shockingly very accurate with a HUGE ES

My sortie was purchased as well because the thought of a moderated semi-auto plinker was just too cool to ignore. I saw it listed second hand, and got it cheap, too. It took way more mods and work that I would have imagined to achieve my vision for it, but it does run very well, very accurately, and very quietly.

My HW50s I got from dairyboy, and he had had motorhead adjust it. I've never owned a quality, refined springer. So, again, I had to know what that was like. It's something I plan to keep forever.

So, I think the trend here (mostly) is #1 budget friendly, or at least if I can convince myself it might be? 😂. And #2 does it spark my curiosity/creativity.

Using a the same philosophy that I want it. So I have accumulated a lot of powder burners back in the USA, but I never went into large bore other than a collector Winchester Model 1894 Gold Spike edition in 30/30.

For air rifles now are the focus is building up a collection of PCPs to satisfy my HFT & Bench competition ambitions and next a backpack-able gun in the spring, maybe a EdGun Leshiy or an FX Dreamline compact tactical.

It's a hobby I enjoy. I have the money, in most cases so if I see something I think I might enjoy I buy it. I will say, if there was a way to try before you buy...I would probably have fewer ones than I do. I know I could just turn around and sell the ones I don't want anymore but let's face it, that process can be a PITA! FX just needs to slow down on the production of the next, best thing in the universe...they're just enablers!

I buy a new gun when I need one that does something my current guns do not. The difference may not be huge but there is a definite difference/reason when I order something new. I enjoy the shooting way more than the collecting. I tend to stick with the one gun that does what my current shooting interest is. As you would expect my inventory is small.

I'm not a tinkerer. I don't want to keep changing calibers and power. (i'd screw it up) I want to be able to grab a gun for a specific purpose. 7 fpe .177 with a red dot for inside pesting at the farm. (safe and quiet) 12 fpe .22 for pesting in the backyard. (all i need) 15 fpe .22 for squirrel and rabbit hunting. 17 fpe .177 for pest birds out to 50 yards. 30 fpe .22 for raccoons and pest birds past 50 yards or on windy days at the farm. 7 fpe springer for plinking at home. I've found these to be perfect for my needs.

Next I want (want not need) a .25 for when I visit my daughter out west to shoot marmots past 50 yards.

Then I'm done.

Know when to say when.

Seriously.

That's all I'll ever need.

Not one more gun.

Why are you laughing?

I have a very meager little collection but had to have R1's in 3 calibers to make up my mind which was best. MDriskill got me hankerin' for an HW55 and I liked it so much I had to buy a second as a back up. And who can say "No" to a Tyrolean or a wood stock with sexy stripes so bought those when they came along. I probably even bought a couple of guns just so nobody else would buy them (that's the WORST justification anyone can use!)
