Taipan Why I like Taipan(s)

I have three of 'em, and I shoot them a lot, more days than not, the laminate Vet since '18. The Mutant and the brown Vet are the most recent and have been occupying most of my time...I "KNOW" these guns and have taken the time for familiarization simply because I enjoy shooting and owning this platform, an important point over look by many...getting to know your gun doesn't happen in just a few plinking sessions...IMHO. I did an informal test (comparison) of my 3 Taipans and a Kalibergun Mini Carbine being the odd man out...all .22 caliber with JSB 18's @ 35 yds sitting in my (easy) chair resting gun on my knee, as my custom is. I shot two sets of 4 targets at least 5 shots each...Mini was first. Mutant, Brown Vet, last Laminate Vet. Mini was (is) hamstring by an inferior trigger, lower X scope 16X but still a great gun...but not in the same class is Taipan, (groups speak for themselves), The Mutant was aquired from member Shambozzy a few months ago, (bless him) bought new in '15ish, and is all factory original, somewhat lighter than current Mk1 Vets...the shown groups attest to my feelings about this one...this Mutant shoots CPHP's, you would have to see to believe. Brown Vet, actually has a coffee Laminate stock but I have an older Ukrainian stock on it...newer gun given to me to pay off a dept, may be most accurate of the bunch...example group says so, Laminate Vet...my pet with 40X scope heavy shot last in test, I was getting tired and shows in groups. Note, Mutant and brown guns are wearing Veyron 6X24X44 scopes...I highly recommend. The 3 Taipan's triggers, cocking and general balance feel and preformamce are identical consistent...can't tell the difference. The takeaway from this test...Note the best groups from guns I have been shooting most and the Mini's inferior trigger groups, the laminate Vet was affected by wind weight and being last shot. All regulators are a factory...all HSA at between 825-860 fps...pellets lubed but not sorted...As for me, I'm sorry to see the Mk 1's discontinued...but I've got my share of them...Now you know why I'm a fan boy!

Thats a beautiful lineup there for sure. Ive been toying with buying a Vet as they seem to be fantastic airguns. Ive been torn between Vet, Uragan and Prophet, so we'll see.
I do have a Cricket Carbine and it is a really powerful laser. Id put it up against any 22. Theyre really great guns. By the way, those triggers can be great if tuned.

How many shots do you get from the Vets at that power?

Hi my friend .. feel exactly the same .. my mutant standard was in perfect mechanical condition but it had a leak , it is so old that I don't have the markings of caliber n sereal # I send the to US to Motorhead for a complete work out n reseal.. and what a shorter it is 90y + is not a problem with 18gr pellets . Few weeks ago I purchased a .25 standard these last mk1 in .25 have the newer unchoke barrels n they shot as great as the .22 mutant. Every time you took them out is just fill point n shoot.. no tuning this or that scratching your head because of the bad harmonics.. awesome platform for sure.. mine stay until I can't no longer shoot or they can't no longer be fixed..

My old Taipan Mutant is awesome. Such a well made gun that just preforms. My best 50 yard groups were shot with it. It’ll literately shoot hole for hole at 50 if you do your part. I’ve thought about adding a shorty to the collection. I never see mutant compacts for sale though.
I’d like to handle one of those mini carbines. That design looks like the ultimate woods walker. Not that heavy and compact to.

I see you never owned a Veteran...I own a Mini Carbine...if it wasn't outstanding I wouldn't be feeding it (great guns)...HOWEVER...I do put it up against my .22 Vets and it looses regularly...Most others loose also...at least in my handes....If you want the/my, assessment of Taipans PM me and I'll give you my number and we will chat...You won't be the first I've converted (successfully) to Taipan Veterans. BTW 70 ish shots

Here’s my ol Mute. This is my best group at 48 yards. Only 4 shot groups since that was left in first mag. Second mag had hades in it. Was just a wet piece of cardboard laying on the ground. I shot a random hole then used that as a poa. Probably a little luck if I’m honest. I’m sure would have pulled the 5th shots hahaha. I seem to always do that when I’m trying. Shows what the guns capable on a good(or lucky) day. 🤘🤣

I've bought and sold a bunch of air rifles over the years. There are only 2 that I sold and then repurchased, a RAW HM1000 and a Taipan Standard Vet 1. I guess both share some characteristics that are important to me: accuracy, simplicity, durability, great triggers. I suppose the Vet is more impressive in one regard. It's a bullpup and I hate bullpups! In spite of that personal prejudice, when something is right, it's right, and such is the Veteran.
