Taipan Why I like Taipan(s)

I just got it, I think I'm the 3rd owner so I don't know if it's ever been apart. I did try the quick bursts and it did help as it doesn't leak out all at once but gurgles now..haha. I'll probably just order the valve seal and reg tester and put in all new Orings. it's winter anyways so no better time than now.

One of the experts will show up and tell you what's up . If not start a new thread or reach out . I would put a few rounds through it and see if it settles in and put a few drops of silicone oil in the fill probe next fill . It might just need some fresh orings as well . It will be worth the trouble.

My buddy has had a Taipan standard .25 for a couple of years now that he loves and I enjoy shooting whenever I am in need of a gun. Last year I found myself making a trade for a .177 taipan and I love it! 150 shots with the 8.4gr pellets at 900fps or 10.3gr at 840fps, not pellet fussy, and it took down everything I pointed at. It isn't ny favorite for offhand shooting but it was a fantastic little rifle.

This is an addendum to my original posting...My original Laminate Veteran, owned and shot since '18, wasn't happy being "shown up" by the new-commers because I was tired, so I gave her another chance, all things being equal except I used JTS 18s instead of JSB 18s and "9 shots" instead of 5....MUCH BETTER! Here she is all decked out...Just an outstanding airgun!

You need three 24x3mm orings and one 13.5x2mm oring. When you order them it may be listed opposite. 3x24mm and 2x13.5mm. Either way you can just PM me if you need help so we don’t derail this topic. If your valve is bad I would be shocked. Unless one of the previous owners was a power junkie.

What do you consider power junkie in terms of the valve stem durability? Is 52 FPE in .25 caliber a power junkie?

My compact .177 gets 60 shots and shoots the 10.3gr around 887 and CPHPs around 960 fps . I still get decent accuracy with the lighter stuff at high speeds . That's a nice size iguana . Nice to see the .177 pesting . That rail doesn't look very comfortable . I do like the square front , helps me keep my crosshair level. And a clamp gets a nice purchase.

My .22 Standard showed up shooting 18s at 920 and Hades at 960 . I slowed it down with a HS adjustment and still get a SD in the 3s . It loves the 18s and does well with 16gr Hades . The JTS 22.07gr did well at 800 fps also. I always look for to using it .

Thanks, may take you up on that. Probably won’t dig into until next weekend or after holidays. Apologies for high jacking this thread.

Bngen3,
I really feel bad. I promise I will take care of anything. It may have been bad to have set since March and not shoot it. I did PM and message your #.
It was always filled from a tank very slowly as I also had a Brocock Commander that I had heard needed the slow filling. Usually 225 to no more than 240 BAR. I didn't ever replace any O-rings or open it up, as I'm not an adjuster or dialer. Just shoot. It came with the power plenum and dailer, but I am fully responsible for the condition, and never meant to misrepresent anything to you.

Please reach out.

No worries sir, all part of the hobby. Probably needs a good going thru anyways. I’m not upset towards you one bit

Top was a .22 but was re-barelled with a .177 barrel from a CZ200. It's happy place is 920-925 with 10.34s. my 6 year old uses it for field target. It has an airtube from a Vet Standard, but the scope tower from a Short. That makes it fit the Ukraine vintage Shorty stock that has the shorter LOP to fit the 6 year old.

Middle was a .22 Short but was re-barelled with a longer .20 barrel. It loves the .20/13.73 @ 800-805. My 11 year old uses this one for field target, and I do occasionally as well. The scope towers are from the Standard on the top, making it fit the chassis stock. It has the airtube from a Short and ends about the same place as the chassis stock. This one is perfect for clandestine pesting (super short). And is a top contender for my overall favorite of all the airguns that I've had the pleasure to shoot.

Bottom has been through a bunch of barrels, trying to find one that would shoot the .22 Monster RDs. Finally found success with one of the RTI "LR" 1:32 polygonal barrels. Used this gun to take first at one of the 5? EFT Grand Prixs this past summer. .22 Monster RDs at 955-960 are pretty dang good. Also used it to win some money (different barrel) at the American Field Target event at EBR in 2022? (Third place I think). This is my highest powered airgun and I dont want anything more powerful than it.

Yep, lots to love in the Veteran platform.

Here are my Taipans - both Vet 2s in .22. They both shoot slugs and pellets well, but I use the 550m barrel gun for mostly pesting at shorter ranges (sub 100 yards) and the 700mm barrel gun for over 100 yards. They are the guns I can just pick up and take and they work and are way more accurate than I am. I just bought my youngest son a Vet 2 standard with the grey laminate stock for Christmas.
