Why is there a shortage of pellets?

When looking for 25cal pellets there seems to be a shortage. Back ordered & preorder lists. My question is why?

I also shoot powder bench rest and when a powder burner shell shoots perfectly the person buys as much of that .22 as they can afford .

SAME with pellets . but i do not think many air gunners buy in amounts that would cause a shortage.

I think it is more and more people are buying air guns , maybe because of You Tube videos , air gunner TV ?

+1 Beerthief - more people are buying airguns as powder ammo is more expensive even as supply returns (slowly for some cartridges). Hard to tell whether hoarding levels have changed much in the last 24 months. I still maintain a hoard of 5 - 10 tins for every gun I own, sometimes 2-3 different pellets if it isn't picky.

Interesting how some items recover quickly, like JSB .177 Exact Monster Diabolo 13.4's, while my 10m pistol has been waiting for eons for RWS .177 4.49 wadcutters.

Mg616,

Give American made Vogel wadcutters a try. They shoot great in all my airguns that were designed for wadcutters.

The ones that have them is their price is way over retail or there their shipping is. I ,m not paying $30 for a tin of 150 pellets. I bought a $18 tin of 22 slugs & after shipping $30.

Yes now go check what your paying with shiping & tax?? None of the ones listed about tell you what shipping is. I checked the first you had list only by clicking our. JBS about

$16 price. Great but with shipping $36 & we are talking Oklahoma. I kid you not. The next most were preorder. This is what Amazon does on many on some things, as they kick

the retail way up with free prime shipping. I buy alot of stuff from Amazon but I,m very care full of just that.

Price of pellets isn't likely to come down anytime soon so you can either buy in bulk from someplace like Zan to offset the shipping cost or put your guns back in their cases or the gun safe while you wait for someplace like PA to get some so you can have your Buy 3, Get the 4th free deal.

Might keep watching AoA while you're not shooting too since when they do have some, they have a Buy 4 get the 5th free deal.

Also the option of taking up pellet making and spend the money for your own molds to make what you want and not need to rely on retailers to have pellets.

The problem isn't that there's a shortage. The problem is the actual shipping it takes to get them to the US retailers. I've talked to several and they all say the same thing: They have orders and those orders are coming, they just haven't gotten them yet. Some of those orders are trickling in but shooters are buying them up so fast the retailers probably never even get a chance to stack them on a shelf.

Proof the big name companies are making them?? That one is easy since the retailers in Europe that will ship here seem to have a pretty healthy supply and if they say out of stock, it's usually BACK in stock in a few days. They don't have to rely on ships and shipping containers, just truck drivers.

Here is what I,m seeing. Lets say a tin of pellets that normally were $12 last year or retailing for $16 now. Many (not all sellers) are charging higher shipping rates than normal.

USPS is now close to $8 for a lb of weight. If a tin of pellets weight was a lb that means to your home is $24. But over a lb but under 2 lb tack on $1.35 = $25.35. If you are shooting

1.77 or .22 cal you are not feeling it near as bad as the .25cal & up shooters. Air rifle folk normally shoot more ammo per sitting than powder burners. So when it cost say 20 cents

a shoot we are talking $1 per 5 shots. Many pellets are alot higher per shot the higher the caliber. Higher caliber means higher cost of ammo & shipping because of weight.

Just something to think about! Fly
