Why so many used FX Impacts for sale?

Pyramyd Air is the largest airgun store in America and the Marauder and disco are their two most popular pcp rifles.

Way more people buy $200-$450 PCPs (Mrods and Discos for the money are GREAT values and can be tinkered and upgraded to your heart's desires) vs the Top Tier price on airguns of $2000 and have to wait 6 months to get them...I think there so behind cause theres so many parts to put together to build 1 impact...

The reason I love gun forums. You have so many Master Debaters on them?

No "high end power burners" but many nice ones in the $500 range.(speaking of rimfire rifles since they sort of match the 25% of a impact gun slot). My problem is I buy one for $500 and then start buying barrels and stocks, until all that is left is the action with the serial number and close to the price of the impact. ;)

And I have to agree there does seem to be many more impacts for sale? But since there were zero for so long 3-5 would seem like a lot? Which it isn't.

You can do the same with air guns too. A lot of people spend a fortune upgrading Marauders trying to turn a $500 gun into a $1500 one. There is very little (if any) saving by the end and a significantly lower resale value than if they had just bought a gun that did what they wanted out the box. 

$500 powder burners or air rifles can be ok or even good for the price but they never come with nice stocks and barrels etc. Their accuracy is usable but they require work and cash to make them special. 

Either way, rimfire is not a usable substitute for pcp rifles unless you live in the country and can legally plink with rim fire in your back yard.

My reasons for modifying out my Marauder was to learn how these things work. I personally was not confident to take apart a 15K rifle to start out with. Eventually all PCPs will eventually need to be broken down to change all the seals. What better rifle to learn but on a Marauder or Hatsan. The beauty of starting with a Marauder and improving it is the satisfaction in taking a low end rifle and turning it into a "shooter". The Marauder is a simple platform with cheap magazines. There are lots of replacement parts and lots of helpful videos. I am not done with my Marauder yet. I eventually plan to make a stock for it. Granted it may not resale well but….. I do not plan on selling it. Just resently I took 20th place ( out of 70 shooters) in the 2016 25 meter bench rest at Extreme Benchrest. My Marauder beat out some major players in the industry ( there was no Sportsman class). A better shooter with the rifle would have placed even higher (this was my very first competition). I plan to shoot it again next year. I have also been quite successful hunting with it as well. I believe I have just over a grand in the thing. If someone was to do what I have done (barrel, regulator, tuned) they would be under a grand as the Marauder price and 25% discount is significantly lower than when I purchase my rifle. 
I actually would highly recommend anyone who wants to work on their own rifle to start out with a Marauder to get the experience before ruining their Impact trying to learn. I really don't think an Impact should be the first rifle a newbie should buy. I also don't think you can pull a rifle out of a box and win a competition. You will most likely have to test pellet weight, pellet brand, and pellet speed just to name a few things before the rifle becomes a laser. This obviously requires you to adjust the rifle. Working on My Marauder has given me the confidence to work on more expensive rifles. For me, it was worth every penny that I spent on the Marauder to gain insight as to how these PCPs work.

A lot times sales of high end guns is because of the money they cost just collecting dust at home. For a guy like myself i might sell a high ened gun just to try another ....they dont collect dust at my house because i have a range right in my back yard. Now on to my two cents ...i have owned just about every brand of airgun except daystate and my condor ss 25 will hang with any airgun on the market today. If you know your gun then you know the exact time your pellet will stop dropping a little.

Given the number of Impacts being sold, 2 to 5 used ones for sale can't be more than a fraction of a percent of these rifles currently out there. I haven't read any threads or talked to anyone who owns an impact that is not VERY happy with their rifle. There were some bugs that needed to be worked out of the first edition units, but even those weren't deal-breakers to those that owned them. I have a friend that goes through guns, both firearms and airguns, like I go through underwear. He buys one, shoots it for a while, absolutely loves the gun, sees a different gun he wants to try out, and sells the gun he just fell in love with. It's just how he operates. Once the novelty wears off, he wants the next newest, greatest thing. I don't have his bank account so I can't play like that, but he seems to truly enjoy doing it this way.

Personally, even if I DID have his bank account, I wouldn't sell my Impact unless someone made me a really stupid offer on it that A) enabled me to buy another one and B) made it worth going through the waiting period again. As far as I'm concerned, my Impact was the airgun purchase to end all airgun purchases. Now... Accessories...? That's a different story... :)

You're right... I will most likely end up buying other airguns. As a matter of fact, I'm sure that when my son is old enough to shoulder one of these pcp's I'll end up buying him a series of air rifles for birthdays and/or Christmas and whatnot... But as for myself, the only other items I can imagine wanting are the .22 and .25 caliber barrel kits for my impact... Which, as stated above, are only accessories to one of the two air rifles I own.

I rarely sell a gun and bought my first one in the early 70s. To other posters Air Guns are like anything else. You can spend however much you want to spend. I found a new Browning X Bolt in 270 Win with a AAA Maple stock, new, for $750. A well made, accurate and beautiful powder burner and you could get almost 3 of them for what an Impact costs. I have a CZ 452 in 17 M2, decent lower end walnut with a fair finish, stunningly accurate with a $20 Ebay trigger spring kit. It has a cold hammer forged bbl. Total well under $400. Air Guns are expensive for what you get. That said I will be getting another PCP in the future, quite possibly a Streamline after they get past any initial issues.

You could be right. There have definitely been occasions when I have been relieved that new air rifles arrived while my wife was out so they could be smuggled into my house without me getting that "what? You bought another air gun?" Look. It's always followed by that most shameful of questions, "how much did you spend this time?". It has me staring at my shoes stuttering out vague answers every time like "oh... um.... uh..... not that much..... um.... there was a sale on so it was practically free...

You could be right. Lol was glad I got home before my wife when my Taipan Mutant arrived yesterday. Will definitely be getting those questions as well whenever she actually sees it. However we do get a monthly budget to spend on whatever we want so with selling other ones and saving I stay within my budget so no harm done

This is a 2 year old thread, and I've only seen one Impact for sale in the past 3 months, .30 caliber, and AoA sold it in a few days. Bought mine from AoA about 6 months ago, Used. Best bet is to save your pennies and buy a new one. I bought used, by shear dumb luck. Still paid $1500 for the gun and chose to upgrade to X barrel. Didn't really save that much.

If you've got one and sell it, you'll be disappointed

I'm not a fan of the FX brand, but i recognize as a PCP lover that their products are very good, you have to understand one thing, FX have rifles for all kinds of people and purposes, their more sophisticated rifles like the impact and the crown are not made for people who are beginners, they are Like a race car, it's not just about driving a car, it's about fully understanding your behavior from side to side ... they build rifles for those who do not know thoroughly and are beginners, rifles like the streamline and the wildcat for example ... the crown and the impact are excellent pieces, they arrive to the client with a predetermined adjustment so that his new owner gives him the final touch according to his requirements ... what is also true is that Adjustability in a rifle like these has its price and is that of many parts susceptible to leaks, but with proper handling and learning to know your rifle, you will surely have no problems.

Again, this is an old thread...things have had time to shake out. I bought one of the first versions in 30 cal new. it was not so accurate as most claimed, but I had no issues with it for the few months I had it, before loosing it in a house fire. I bough another one, .25 cal, used, about 6 months ago, It was still the Smooth Twist type, with telescoping shroud, and started having problems with gradual power loss. I bought all the o rings and resealed the barrel transfer port and pellet probe without fixing problem. I believe the problem involves the valve rod assembly, but am reluctant to take the whole gun apart to get at these parts, because it is so complex and is expensive to send out for repair. So, I have a gun I can't use. I would not buy another impact and would probably get a Wildcat instead, which I have also owned, before the fire.
