Wildcat Breech Seal

I just looked at my wildcat breech seal and it looked very similar to yours, but I checked it gently with a needle probe and the oring is there. Its a clear oring , not black. Theres a little wiggle room so if you lightly push on it you should see it move. Its a tight area, not much room and makes it difficult to see without actually probing it.

Yep you're right...checked it with a needle and it's still there! Still not sure why I've lost 20fps on my shot strings over the past week of shooting...maybe hammer spring loosened up?

FastEddie - have you noticed any air escaping around the magazine when you shoot it?

Sure is easier trouble shooting when the gun has been out longer than these wildcats have...more info out there. Of course I could just be looking for something to be wrong with the gun...

Cigraham: it could be because your regulator is beginning to settle in, you just have to give it time and check it after 500 pellets. Now forgive me if you have had your Wildcat for some time, and your regulator is already settled in. Keep in mind 20FPS lost is not a big deal, as long as you shot string stays consistence across the entire shot string after it settles down.

Yeah, I've got almost 1500 pellets through it now so I'd think if the reg was gonna settle in it would have by now. I mentioned in a previous post that I'm getting dips in my shots strings but there were fewer of them in this last string I shot so...who knows?

I'm just going to stop analyzing the gun and just shoot the darn thing...for now! Thanks guys!

Well I felt this might be the cause of my troubles...the breech seal came out with the magazine today while I was shooting. I guess the side I couldn't see was probably damaged and it finally gave out. Just grabbed another (black) #009 70 duro from my stock and after about 30 mins of fiddling with it got it back in. The shot sound was back to normal and I'm guessing I'll probably gain back the loss fps I was experiencing when I chrony it again.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe " #009 " IS an o-ring size and could be found ( in some heavyish black color ) at any Ace Hardware store.

I was sort of surprised to see in the original marauder manual - sometimes not all manuals cover everything- they instructed you too oil the o-ring with 20wt sillycone oil every 500 shots, something weve done to an old AA410 for years, makes a huge difference in smoothness and lifespan, but just enough to get it wet, maybe under a drop on a q-tip rubbed on.

The heavier white rings will take more abuse/neglect and may or may not sell as well, if a very tight fit they should work well and forever, if a slightly looser bolt fit a lower number will seal better.

Dartagnan: Hi. You can call AOA, press 2 to speak to an airgun technician and they can tell you, or remove it and match it up yourself at Home Depot in the plumbing section. I've found o-rings for my fill probe and the outside, breech end of my barrel on my .25 wilcat. They have a huge selection of different size o-rings.

I just had the exact same thing happen to my Wildcat 22. It has about 4000 rounds through it and has been just deadly, silly accurate. Amazes me every time I shoot it. Anyway, last 100 shots my POI started to move around. Tried everything to no avail. Then yesterday the breech seal came out in the magazine. Have a call into AOA to get some new ones. You learn something new every day. I really like this Wildcat! It is the most accurate, smooth, fun to shoot gun I have ever owned. It just seems to fit me.

I might suspect Ballistol to soften the urethane o-ring material, but would need to test it to be certain. I know that any alcohol, and many aromatic solvents, will attack/soften polyurethane (source: Parker O-ring Handbook). Replacing the o-ring with nitrile would eliminate that worry, or just switch to a light silicone oil lube for the pellets instead of Ballistol.
