Thanks to Christmas, it took me just over a week to finally get my new Wildcat 30 cal out to the range and try it out. I mounted a Hawke Sidewinder 6-24x scope with FX No Limit rings,and used the rings to get close to zero at 50 yards. I then used the turrets to finish zeroing. I shot seven five-shot groups, and each group got smaller and smaller, until I was getting just under a half-inch groups. Winds were 5 to 10 mph from my left, but variable enough to let me time my shots during the lulls. After seven groups, this is what I was getting:
Mind you, this is after fewer than 50 shots in a brand new rifle. I did remove the liner and swab it clean before I left the house. My groups were so good, I decided to quit punching holes in paper and started shooting paintballs off the tops of golf tees at 50 yards, and I was hitting them far more often than I missed them. Paintballs are 68 caliber, so about 0.7 inches across. Did I mention they make a wonderful "Whop!" sound when you hit them with a 30 caliber pellet? Am I happy so far? Very much so. I shot it with the FX stackable moderator that came with it, but forgot to shoot it with only the shroud for comparison. With the stackable moderator, I thought the noise level was very acceptable. One of the first things I noticed about this Wildcat is how light it is for its size and caliber. I am a lefty, and it presented no issues for me, other than the slightest of contact of the front of my cheek against the clip. My chronograph forgot to jump in the truck before I left the house, so I do not have any pellet speeds for you. I hope to get some tomorrow. I was shooting the 44.75 Vortex (JSB?) pellets.
My only beef so far is the clip sometimes did not index correctly. It was off by the smallest amount, but enough to prevent me from pushing the next pellet into the barrel. In the morning I will look closer at it and try to determine the reason.
