FX Wildcat mk3 (value priced)?

Hello nation,

I finally settled on which PCP rifle I wanted to get. I had settled on the FX wildcat Mk3 compact bottle. While doing a Google search I see that they now have a wildcat MK3 VP (value priced) and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there were differences besides the obvious.

I see that the value priced version comes with a 600 mm barrel while the regular version comes in 500 and 700 mm. It also looks like it comes with a bigger bottle than the compact version At 400 cc.

My question is is it worth spending the extra $200 to get the non-value priced version or is there a reason why the compact non-value is worth $200 more. Is there a catch about the value priced version that I’m not seeing?

Could you suggest a tank?

I use mine for pesting so I went with a used 300cc cf FX tank that was like new from a member here . My 600mm Maverick vp weighs 6lbs 11oz now . But any quality cf bottle should work in whatever cc size you need , with the correct OD and thread size . I like having the extra bottle so I could change out if needed . What kind of shot count are you after and what power ?

I think its worth the extra to get the Compact. The bottle is bigger but quite a bit heavier on the VP, and it doesnt come with the hardcase. If you decide to buy a CF bottle later, it will cost you $300 new or about $180 used. If you are overly concerned about the cost, I also really liked my Tube version of the Wildcat. In 22 Cal it was an amazing offhand hunting machine, but I converted it to 25 Cal and traded to a good friend of mine. They are even cheaper than the Compact version, but have a lower shot count and a single reg. All versions of the Wildcat and Maverick are great choices, and when you are ready to try a different configuration you can always buy/sell/trade for parts here in the classifieds.

Good choice on the wildcat, I have owned 3, currently the mk3 compact tube. Perfect hunter. I would get the C/F version for weight.

I bought the VP and put a 480cc carbon bottle on it. I lucked out and got an FX bottle cheap. You don’t necessarily have to put an FX branded bottle on it, you can get a bottle much cheaper on Amazon or Aliexpress. The carbon bottle is a noticeable weight saving for sure.

That being said, if you want the compact, get the compact. The extra 4 inches makes the rifle a lot longer once you add a mod on the end, and you will need one, the guns pretty loud without one.
