Tuning Wildcat MKI ST barrel need help getting shroud off

I pulled the barrel on a used wildcat MKI in 177 yesterday to clean the barrel because for the life of me i can't get 13's or 10.34 to shoot at all. I understand the shroud should just unscrew but no go at all.....I can even place the shroud in a vice with rubber pads and use a set of vice grips with leather on the barrel and I can't get this shourd to come apart. Any ideas?

Barrel is apart and thanks for all the advice!!!!! I learned the set screw is attached to the rear section of threads that the shroud screws into. It took heat to remove the front section so I could get the shroud off. I had used a pull through cleaner on this barrel before, but here is what came out the first push of a 177 brass brush....that is a 177 patch with "chunks" of lead on it. I cleaned, polished the barrel and now will get it back together to see if I can get any groupings from this barrel which so far I have not been able to obtain.

Thanks for all the help

This is the reason I only use pull thru’s in remote areas for an emergency quick clean only, and it is not my preferred way to clean a barrel.

if an airgun’s barrel is removable it always goes on a padded vice for a good hour session with the Dewey rod, brass brush, and mops. To me, it is the correct and best method to 100% clean a barrel. Pull thru’s are short cut methods, have their place, but are not the best way

I also have a MK1 Wildcat in .22 and it's one of my best beater truck guns I have. You'll need to use a heatgun or torch the first time for most parts but once everything is broken free your golden. Open up your transfer port and pellet probe grab a HUMA reg and set @ 135 and enjoy! I even get OK groups with Slugs with the ole ST barrel lol, mostly shoot H&N Barracuda's gun loves them...

It is the best way if it NEEDS it. A good barrel with no machining anomalies, shooting at standard velocities, should rarely, if ever need scrubbing with a rod and brush. I currently have 6 PCP rifles, and only one ever needs to be cleaned with a brush. And yes, it you are getting visible chunks of lead on your patch, then something needs further investigation. Maybe I've been lucky, but this has been my experience.

The biggest thing with the MKI is pellet probe aliment with the port on the block. You do this by loosening the 4 screws on the airtube and sliding the whole action back and forth.

You can drill some 1-2mm holes in the Shroud to help with sound levels. I have 5-2mm holes in mine with sponge material inside to help with damping and sound reduction.

I believe Ernest has a video on this on the Tube. Man I can not tell you how much I have enjoyed this pellet pusher, super quite and super fun. Just wish it had a bigger mag capacity and larger air tank or a way to put a bottle on. I'm sure I could probably Mcgiver a bottle on but not worth the time and energy
