Will I Sacrafice Accuracy w/ an ATN Digital Scope? vs Hawke?

I have the 3-14X ATN 4K scope new in the box. I have not used it because I shoot my Youtube videos and I have to do accuracy tests on all the guns. I figured if I'm trying to put pellets through the same hole, i.e. achive "pinpoint" accuracy, than a digital crosshair could never compete with the etched reticle of a Helix or $500 Hawke scope.

Did I assume right?

Would any of you use an ATN at EBR or RMAC? that's one way to put it.

I just don't know if I want to "open" the box...just to try it out. If I know it's less accurate, I will just pass on it.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks -Nate @ Airgun Channel

I would have to say eventually when the resolution of the screen gets so poor that you are unable to see the target well enough to place your shots. Then the glass scope will win the accuracy contest.

But from my experience with the scope that is going to take quite a bit of distance for that to happen unless you are shooting at very tiny targets. Like a couple of hundred yards or better would be my best guess.

You will however be able to see the pellet holes in your targets better with a glass scope at 100 yards than with the ATN

In regard to putting pellets in the same hole / testing the rifles ability to do that, IMO the #1 thing must be the ability to fix the rifle in place, as otherwise you are also testing shooter abilities.

you also need weather to cooperate if you shoot outside as wind will push pellets to a degree, and in regard to hole in hole a little are a lot, and instead of a hole that might grow in size with 10 % with each shot, you would probably see a 50 - 75 % hole growth,,,, at least, but that will of course only be with the first shots in my experience, later shots more easy find a way thru the bigger hole without adding to its size, but by then the hole are 3- 4 X the size of a single pellet, and maybe elongated or ragged.

With the rifle fixed you pretty much dont need a scope, but you would have to go to your target paper and move it over a little to a new clean piece for the next group.

I am working on being able to fix my rifles 100 % cuz at least in regard to my maverick, either i have become a lesser shooter or the rifle have a harder time producing the tight groups i expect from it. The same is also sort of the case with my new Vulcan 3, but at a much lesser level, and at least it is so with a range of pellets / slugs, where just finding one that feel very good in the Maverick are hard.

In regard to my Maverick i want to know for sure, before i go buy a new barrel possible a longer barrel, selling it are of course out of the question as i dont feel good about the gun, so me being me i would feel i was cheating someone if i sold it right now, even telling a possible buyer that the gun are not performing to my liking,,,,,, and i only do that ( cheating / lying ) if it is a return of that "favor"

I am surprised that out of the many airgun reviewers, none of them demo the rifles actual abilities, they all demonstrate a combined shooter and rifle ability. Personally i am mostly interested in the rifles ability on its own, shooters as we know are a bit up and down, but knowing the rifle is good, your own irregularities are more easy to work with.

Besides the clarity comparison at far distance I would say its pretty able. The pixel zero adjustments while zoomed are really tight increments. Its also fine to run night mode during daylight, won’t hurt the sensor and sometimes it helps in low light or just improve contrast to see rings and holes on paper targets. Recording in 120 frames per second is good for video and watching the pellet in slow-mo.

ATN have given me a problem with these scopes, having 4K in the product name, when the sight are only able to record 1080p, and as far as i know the screen in the sights are also not 4K, the sights could use a 4K sensor and then do 4 in 1 pixel binning to ramp up low light sensitivity that way,but i dont think that is the case.

IMO that is faking it.

We have long see the same in the Dashcam marked, now these dashcams will output a 4K footage, but it is 4K up scaled form a 1440p or 1080p sensor and so the image quality are not better, and no one should buy one of these fake 4K dashcams.

My ATN 4K scopes are just as accurate as any of my other scopes. You can chose a reticle that is just as fine as those in the Helix and Hawke. I have also found the video quality to be clearer than using a phone mount or even the Tactical, I tend to get glare from those mounts, but don't with the ATN Scope. Resolution will degrade when you zoom in with the ATN, which is why I prefer the 5-20X over the 3-16X ATN scope, No zoom at all gives the highest resolution.

Well i am not sure it work just yet, these days i just shoot when weather give me a chance to do that, but i will be pressing on when weather improve.

For the front support i use a Caldwell Rock BR, which will grab the bottle, though i might have to modify that to grab something else, and now grab it good as i have put in something with higher friction ( rubber ) as stock even tightening hard on the bottle it could still slide too easy, this rest while it have 3 pointy feet, i am also able to fix it in place by bolting it to the bench.

I have not yet gotten around to what to do in the back, as i need it to be universal and not rifle attached to space the shoulder end out i have been thinking about the same you would so as a machinist using some adjustable wedges, sideways my plan so far is to just have 2 boards ( of course also fixed to bench ) i could sandwich the butt stock in between, and then secure it with a locking C clamp.

It aint going to look good for sure, but i am pretty sure the rifle will move a lot less than if i was behind it firing it, after all it is not something i would be using a lot, unless i gained massive youtube fame and people started to send be rifles for me to beat on as they to some degree do with dashcams ( another hobby of mine )

But i hope not,,,,, not happy about the prospect of that, or the challenges it in my opinion get receiving "free" stuff. Also i am locked to the .177 caliber.

For now i just want to figure out my Maverick, and find out if it is me, or it is the gun and i would have to take the chance getting a new barrel, maybe a longer barrel + barrel tube. All of which just add to the already substantial price of a Maverick for a guy on a Danish pension.

Wow! So well said. I have thought that so many times, but have never seen a gun tested in a vise strapped down removing the shooter equation out of the gun review, I gave up ever thinking I would see or hear of it. But now you've actually said it outloud, and I know I'm not the only weirdo on the planet finding the deep rooted fault hidden within all gun reviews.

I'm impressed.

One of the biggest benefits of the ATN X-Sight 4K Pro and ABL Laser Rangefinder combo is using the Built in Ballistic Calculator.

I have used this combination on my ATN X-Sight 4K Pro and ATN THOR 4 thermal scopes, and they are an airgun hunter's dream. No holdover or under, just range and shoot! I don't care if the first groundhog is at 25 and the next is at 125, it's gonna be dead as can be in 5 seconds or less.
