Will it ever end, the voice that asks which is better

A good springer or a PCP? Someone butts in and asks,"what will it be used for"? Another, how much money you want to spend, another,at what distance will you be shooting it and on and on......don't forget the PCP needs other equipment to get it to work...
The answer comes, "I just what to plink at under 30 yards and I have $800 to spend". Oh you can get a good cheap PCP and hand pump for under that and there is Always the guy that comes up with get a FX or Daystate, you won't regret it...hey dude he said he had a budget of $800, how is that going to help him?
On and on it goes,a lot of good choices and some great help.......Springer guys and PCP guys ,all air gun people that love the sport.
All of which got me thinking about dogs and women,in a perfect world a man would have them all and all would be loved.
Unfortunately, it is not a perfect world. You have to make choices in life to suit your needs.

Defining those needs seems to be a problem for some.

Considering in how many varied shooting scenarios there are, with a host of varied factors that play into how one defines "better" 🥴
and how another defines "better" almost exactly the opposite way —
that "What's bettter" question really should be referred to by the first AGN member or moderator to a post in the "Resources" tab —
⭐ with a template post of scenarios and factors that the OP can copy into his own thread to define the shooting scenarios and factors.

Then the answers to the OP won't be useless, misleading, or silly.... 😉

🔶 CHOOSING A GUN 🔶

Budget (desired price, maximum price):
Please, do consider other expenses: You probably will want a scope, $100—$500. And in case of a PCP, a handpump to fill the tank, if the time and physical effort won't annoy you (China, $50), or instead an airtank ($500) if you have a dive shop close by to refill it ($20), or for the max. independence a compressor (China, $350).

Type of Gun
Springer (hold-sensitive, limited power, independent of air-sources) | PCP (requires accessories to refill its tank) | DNM (does not matter)

Shooting Scenarios and Ranges
• Plinking (shooting at stuff for the fun of it) and max. Range:
• Hunting/ Pesting: Type of Animals and maximum Range for Each Animal:
• Target Shooting and max. Range:
• Competition Types:

Shape of Gun
Standard rifle | Bullpup | Pistol | DNM

Style of Gun
Traditional (wood) | Modern (synthetic) | DNM

Power and Caliber
• do you have a particular power (muzzle energy) in mind?:
• power externally adjustable (easy to do, instead of requiring gun disassembly):
• do you have a particular caliber in mind?:
• change calibers with a $300 change kit:

Specific Features
(mark with an X all that you would prefer, with two XX all that are indispensable to you)

• suitable for left-handed shooter:

• robust (can be banged around a bit without changing the point of impact):
• semi-automatic:
• full automatic:

• light weight (how light at least, without scope?):
• short (how short at least?):
• backyard quiet:
• large magazines (around 20+ shots):
• a high amount of shots per airtank filling (how many at least?):

Of course, the same could be done for choosing a scope...! 😄

In the end dissatisfaction is the very nature of human beings - it is why we have moved to the top of the food chain and will one day destroy everything we love. No one takes a uhaul to their funeral! Airguns, for me, are a bizarre parasite that has a symbiotic relationship with consumerism and Americanism- more toys more better. ha! Shove that down your springer and I guarantee you’ll hit the “bull” every time. Meanwhile stop bothering us with all this idle chatter, I’ve got to get back to doom scrolling the classifieds.

Truthfully I was not asking,I was paraphasing.
So many people do ask all the time which is better, and that is about everything.
Quite frankly it is a lazy question;that said, it is a way of getting a General notion of what opinions are out there.
If there was a list it would be tarting and again an opinion ,butt most of all it would stop some debate and FUN.
I love what I believe Matthias has done with scopes and moderators,so maybe what I said above sounds hypocritical and that is ok, I think that for beginners it would be a good idea, I am convincing myself of a need for it,and yes for some it will not be enough.
One thing I do know is getting my thoughts in my head down on a "piece of paper" is a lot harder than shooting 1/2"25 yard groups with any of my airguns.

I started my air gunning when I was about 5 years old with a daisy lever action bb rifle, killed my first quail with that gun. After about a year lost interest in that air gun and moved on to other things.
. Here I am, half a century later and back into air guns, amazed at how far they have progressed.
. This time started with a Crosman 760 pumpmaster great little gun and very accurate inside 10 yards. Then I saw a Hatsan Flash Wood in a pawn shop and fall in love with its looks and bought it.
. The gun looked great on the outside but was in such poor shape on the inside had to rebuild it before I could use it. Added a Huma reg adjusted at 1 bar and now the gun is a dream to shoot.
One thing I can't figure out is how anyone after shooting an on board pump pcp or any other pcp could enjoy shooting a springer. I just rebuilt an inexpensive springer for my brother, and before this I mounted a scope on his other springer and tried to sight it in at 50 yards. I have also shot my sons expensive $400 springer and after shooting these three guns I grab my 760 Pumpmaster and my Hatsan Flash and give them both a big kiss.
. The springers recoil and vibrations and inaccuracy make them very uncomfortable guns to shoot.
I know a lot of people will disagree with me and being different is what makes the world go around. But I have yet to see springers being used in shooting competitions. And I believe it's because of how uncomfortable and inaccurate the guns are. Just my thought.

Springers can be very accurate and they are in competition, you have to start with a good one,and that is properly over $400+ now.
Tequila....oops mean technique is what is required for shooting a springer.
Many people are properly better off not getting a springer, also 50 yards is a long shot for one. This is 27yards with a .22 English Tomahawk. Not offhand!
