Wondering why many prefer JSB EJHD vs. H&N baracuda or

I'm not trying to stir up trouble.

I've tried many brands of pellets in my EG R3M and now my Uragan compact. My friend had an R3M, Priest 1, FX Impact and Wildcat 22 & 25, Air Force Talon, and a Vulcan to list what I can remember. We have concluded that H&N makes better quality and accurate pellets. I have more confidence in H&N baracuda and Snipers than JSB Diabolos.

Just looking for some clarity from those who prefer JSBs.

many of my air guns also prefer H&N...I feed them what they prefer and sometimes it takes longer for me to know what they really like because they were shooting good with what I put in them ; only later to find out they shot even better with a different pellet.Another thing I was doing was trying my best to keep the pellets in the same grain...also found usually heavier is better....At first I was happy with the JSB because they shoot good and many people were pushing them....so yes they are good,but H&N may be better for certain guns....another trip ;AA pellets shoot better in a couple of my air guns than the JSB do,even though JSB makes the AA pellets....it just is .Give them cake.

Let the pissing contest begin. Certain guns like certain brand pellets. Of my 12 guns all like js b in some wg T and head size. Yes I have tried others but js b just flat out work.

Most people shoot what shoots most accurately thru their gun. That's what I do. JSBs happen to be the most accurate. Yes I have tried various H&Ns.

My humble opinion is that either pellet will do pretty good - if sorted by head size. I find JSB fantastic when sorted by head size / weight. But they have wide range out of tin. H&N out of tin have tighter tolerances.

Most of my friends don't prefer either pellet. We look up a few internet reviews for a starting point and combine that pellet with the ones we already own for our other guns. After a few groups of each on a clean and lightly seasoned barrel, the gun will choose it's own pellet. That's why some of us go nuts like we won the lottery, after finding cheap wally-world pellets group well in a new gun.

I've found there are less, if any, damaged skirts with H&N, but that may be because of the harder lead and the thicker skirts. I get better groups with the JSBs out to 40 yards, but tighter groups from the H&Ns past that. Some of my rifles prefer JSBs, others H&N.

I have a crosman with a choked 14.5" barrel. It LOVES JSBs. My FX Crown, same story. but I've found the Crown shoots most pellets extremely well. Even poor ones. The rest of my guns are not picky. Or so it seems.

Bosco, you explanation is similar to my experience. Another issue might be MV. My R3M was 920 fps with 18.21gr. Crow Magnums(my preferred short range squirrel and rabbit pellet). The Uragan Compact is set at 825 and shoots 17.9 gr. HN Sniper Magnums very nicely to 100 yds.

rangur_1, I just shoot from the tin and don't measure and sort head size. I save the precision work for powder burners.

Eddie_E, the Crosman Premiers fit that category at $9 a tin of 500.

cea, Maybe I should sort the JSBs and post a photo of the damaged skirts. It looks like the skirts are dinged from machine contact and not just a short fall. I have spoken with the importer in Colorado and they believe its the result of rough handling during shipping.

Like others have said I find JSB to be fragile pellets. I get way more fliers with JSB than my Benjamin or H&N pellets. Even if I sort out the bad skirts I still get them. I think the soft lead can get shaved or deformed easily during an imprecise chambering.

I think that 100% of folk will always prefer the pellet that performs better for them. I doubt anyone will ever say “you know, those JSBs can’t even hit a barn, but I’m gonna stick with them” I’m not a betting person, but most folk here have probably tried both H/N & JSB here. So, if JSBs are preferred by most, it may be because they perform better for most, certainly not all. As for me, JSBs usually do better than others, but not always, so, yeah, you got it, I prefer JSB.

I shoot th4 JSB 18gr just because my gun liked them the best out of the 15 pellets I tried. Simple as that.

I used to shoot strictly JSB in all of my guns. One day I ran out of the JSB 18gr while shooting my Daystate Regal .22 and found a tin of AA16 gr in my gear. I tried it and found out the groupings were tighter and more consistent. Further testings showed that my other guns, FX Crown and Impact MK2 also like the AA 18gr. Needless to say, I stock more of AA than JSB now. They are both great pellets, you just have to test and find out yourself which pellet, brand and weight works best in YOUR guns. This applies to other brands as well. Test and find out. Cheers.

I can’t wait till after Xmas, where I’ll now have a scope for my used but new to me Wildcat MK2 in 25 cal, to see how it shoots my go to Barracuda Hunter Extremes. My Marauder in 25 cal loves them, my 22 cal PRod, and both 177 and 22 cal springers do, too. I go back and forth between those pellets and the H&N Crow Magnums, but since the day I discovered the barracudas, my Crow Mags collect dust anymore. 

Sure wish it was made in a 30 cal, at around 48 grains.



ive heard it mentioned that FX guns were designed to shoot around JSB pellets, and I can’t say that I proved that rumor wrong by using the Hatsan Vortex 44.75 grain pellets in my 30 cal Wildcat (which are so very accurate, I might add) as I believe JSB makes those Vortex pellets.

So the H&N’s in the 25 cal WC will be the true test, that my FX gun is not JSB dependent.

I've got both H&N and JSB but JSB is usually the top dog 9/10 times so I mainly just shoot JSB.

I have owned like 18 pcp in the last 4 years..I like HN brand my guns don't..I still have a tin of each to try them in the next..

I believe these were made for Hatsan by JSB as they are identical . I have shot them both out of a mag in my FX BOSS loading them 1JSB 1 VORTECT 1 JSB etc. No change of impact. The tin says made in Czech Republic
