Would you give up?

Ive got a couple threads floating around with high powered uragan built for slugs. My newest barrel was SUPPOSE to ( fingers crossed) shoot heavy .30 slugs around 140 fpe. Well, it just doesnt. Wont shoot any slug for that matter. However, it shoots 45 AND 50gr jsb pellets the best ive ever seen in any gun. 45gr at 985fps and 50gr at 966fps. Ive never, ever, had a gun shoot pellets this well. At 60 yards, its one single tiny hole, hardly bigger than the pellet head. At 100 yards, the group is covered with a dime. The best part is the plenum, porting, valve and barrel length is for max effort. So shooting pellets at 100fpe its not even trying. Im getting over 80 shots on the reg. What would you guys do? I really had my heart set on big long range power but for some reason the barrel is awful with slugs.

Well you have gone this far, maybe try another barrel. But honestly if it shoots that good it would be hard to mess with.

Can you set it up for double duty. Keep this barrel for pellets and grab another barrel for slugs. I hate to see a gun shooting that well with pellets get changed, it’s rare in our little world.

...slugs largely undermine the usefulness of air guns for me...

...it is not like pellets are harmless but their reduced ballistic potential is a key factor in my current protocol...

I think you have the answer to your question. And, your airgun is telling you already what works best.

With your particular gun and mods, you may be chasing pink unicorns (making slugs work). Your Uragan is happiest with JSBs. Leave it at that I recon, or continue to chase bliss..

If I had a gun shooting groups I can cover with a dime at 100 yards, I wouldn't touch it. Stop drilling, you've struck gold.

Its a 1:26 tj. No elephants being shot, I just have a lot of fun trying to push the edge of pcp’s! But I think you guys are right, I should leave this barrel for the pellets. Its 100 yard benchrest cabable. If anyones in Az Id love to let you shoot it, its unreal accurate with pellets. Might have to wait a couple weeks though Im home with covid and by the way, it sucks as much as everyone says it does!

Since the Uragan is shooting so well with JSB pellets at 100 yards I wouldn't change a thing and beg it to not change its mind! lol

Get another gun and try to get it to shoot slugs well.

There was a 1 in 27 TJ in a rifle I was borrowing and it didn't like 47.5's but that was the only one I tried around 80 fpe.

I think it should be more like a 1 in 18 or so for the 50-ish grain slugs personally.

22rf barrels are typically 1 in 16 twist.
