WRABF…..ERABSF…..USARB 25 meterTarget post 11/30/15

Sitting on that table, the rifle is pointed down my 75 yard outdoor range; all I need to do is open a window and shoot. They are calling for 70% chance rain and snow this weekend, but it's headed up to 55 today, 61 tomorrow and 70 on Friday. Maybe after work (it gets dark at 5pm now) I'll take a flashlight out and shine it on my 25M backstop and get in a card or few. My wife and neighbors are gonna think I'm nuts. My CR-X is a great FT rig, but it isn't a X shooter at 25M, so this will be my first chance at a 250 and high X count.

Lookin good Sharroff -
Talked to Allen yesterday - he told me how much time he'd put into that setup. You've got a real winner there!
cant wait to see how she does -also if you could monitor lead fouling -barrel buildup

P.S
stopped at the house a few minutes ago -wind is kicking up- blustery and cold -
but managed to shoot one card

CK,

Yea, he had it for 4 months and put a ton of work into that gun and that barrel. Lots of machine work, and a lot of work into making everything absolutely rigid.

This was the first time he worked with one of those barrels (I decided to be the guinea pig on a $250+ barrel), so he put a lot of time into figuring out how it likes to be tuned. I was really surprised at the 950 fps tune in this gun vs his normal mid to upper 800 fps tuning. Allen said this is one of the top shooting guns he's been able to build. We talked several times during the build, and it was shooting so well with the full length (24 inch) barrel neither of us wanted to take a chance on cutting it down the length to a normal 17 or 18 inches.

Allen put 1,600 (yea one thousand six hundred) rounds through that barrel while he was working on his build and tune. He did no cleaning and had no lead build up or unexplained fliers. I've put 250 though her with no buildup or unexplained fliers and she is still doing 1/4" at 55 off a benchrest (weight sorted and sized pellets). Allen told me that with the way that barrel has been treated, if I keep using the Slick 50 1 lube that he and I use for lubing pellets I should not expect any buildup. I haven't even pulled a dry cloth though yet; just letting the Slick 50 stay wet in there. Same with his Daystate CR-X that he sold me; I just wipe the grey 'drool' off the end of the moderator after shooting.

Allen and I talked for more than 2 hours- he's a super guy -and a wealth of knowledge -
talked about your setup and how happy he was with the outcome as well.
Hope you enjoy it. Sounds like Allen put a lot of time and effort into your rig -
he really is a hands on guy -
That's amazing -the not needing cleaning in over 1600 shots!
I hear lots of guys using slick 50 and other lubes- even heard about people using pledge table wax?
Also air gauging pellets for head size, some say it works some say it's a waste of time?
given that each barrel is uneque - could be what's good for one isn't for another-
but this is what makes it fun and frustrating at the same time 😬
Cheers
CK
p.S
what pellet is being pushed out at 950 FPS ?
fastest I've got mine going is around the upper 880s ---
id think that once you get near the 1000 FPS mark- you'd start getting into destabilization?

Ok, I am a nincompoop. I was thinking about not putting this post up, but what the heck, I'll let you chuckle at my silliness.

I got done with work early, printed my card, put it up at 25M, came back in the house and sat down to shoot. First thought was "this is alot harder than it looks". I did my sighters to get the elevation and wind correct and start shooting. The first three are good. The fourth I noticed I had a bad trigger pull as I noticed it move left and high as it fired. Ok, mark that a P later, and keep going. The cross hairs are swaying in and out of the 10 ring just because of my pulse in my hand, so I'm doing things to try an minimize that for the rest of the card. I go and get the card and start doing the math and am thinking 'dang, I got a lot of practice coming to get to a 250!". I go up to my computer, upload the picture to photobook, and come to this thread. I see CK's target, then look at mine and realize my pellet is taking out the entire 10 ring when it his center and CK has alot of gap around his X shots. What the fruit loops? Then I realize what happened. My computer took what was an image designed for a printer that could handle 11x17 and had compressed it down to fit on my 8.5x11 for my paper. I printed the target non compressed and cut out the 10 and 9 rings and put them over my pulls. They cover!

So if you ever want a real challenge, print out the 11x17 image on 8.5 x 11 and shoot that!

I guess the wife needs a new printer-one that can handle 11x17 paper :)

CK,

Those are 10.3's at 950. Yea, I think that is hot (I'd be down in the 870s or 880s if it were me) but that is where Allen had it so I'm not going to change his tune.

CampFussel and Strever,

Thanks for the printable left and right, and I'll give it a train again this evening.

CK,

Thanks for that, I hadn't done the math. Allen knew I needed it setup for FT. Must be like a .65 ft/lb difference between him setting the gun up in his elevation and me down here at sea level. I'll turn it down this evening. My Steyr is definitely not a woods walking hunting gun. Too heavy and under powered.

Yeah the elavation can make a difference - just enough to get a disqualification -
saw it happen recently at an event ...........
as to hunting -aside from the weight, 20 ftlbs is more than enough to dispatch tree rats!
took one out with a Steyr silhouette pistol - 4.5ftLB
all in the shot placement ---
but she's a good looking rig!
