Hey y'all! I'm pretty familiar when it comes to these two platforms albeit in different calibers.

I owned an Akela .22 for a year or two and took thousands of iguanas, and I have an XM1 in .25 of which I have taken atleast a hundred iguanas now and both are really nice platforms.

My questions is for those who have had their hands on both or either, of you could chike in on your experiences regarding shot count, pellet choice, max/min fpe l, noise, as well as out of the box experiences and if either gun has left you wanting more.

Yes, I have read the pages of members cutting the hammer spring on the Akela for a better shot cycle. And I have read through the comments regarding the XM1 being able to shoot JSB slugs.
 
Akela .177
Basically stock - hammer polished, trigger polished. Stock 3.5” hammer spring cut to 2.57”.

Shot strings attached - slight adjustment to hammer spring preload between the strings.

Damn that's a ton of shots! Have you thought about regulating it to close up the spread?

I saw sub12airgunners video on adding a regulator and bumping the shot from 50 useable shots to 240. Also his spread was only 15fps spread across the 240 shots.

My unregulated shot strings have about a 20fps spread across 80 shots in the sweet spot. This is at 18.5 ft/lbs.

Sub12 is a great tuner, but those shot counts are for a sub 12 ft/lb (UK legal) rifle. That’s shooting a 10.3g pellet at 720fps.

There are certain advantages to unregulated rifles - among them being 1st shot consistently and simple to maintain.

This is good accuracy at 30 yards. You won’t notice PoI changes with a 20fps spread when shooting 870-890fps at 30-35 yards.

True that, I forgot that his was under 12fpe, thanks for the reminder. That is great shot count for that power and pretty good accuracy out to 40yds!

Do you have any kind of twang when you shoot the rifle? I got one from Airgun Revisions with the tune kit and regardless of how I adjust the spring tension the back of the stock vibrates for like 5 seconds before it stops.

I just tested my .177 Akela carefully for you.

It has NO twang (stock spring cut down). The stock does vibrate slightly for about one second after firing.

I then tested my Cayden .22 - which is currently running Rich’s spring and adjuster - zero twang and no noticeable vibration.

Interesting, I'll see about making a little video. I appreciate that! You posted tunes hst adjustments is that from the the adjustment being flush and making your turns in?

I have an akela .22 all stock no twang. I have a stoeger xm1 scout .22 with no adjustments made and I refill after 4 mags on each cuz that’s all the mags I have. I do like the all metal mags better on the scout. Scout has 200cc tube @ 3600 psi max and regulated. Akela is 280cc tube @3000 psi max not regulated. Both weigh the same. Akela is about 5 inches shorter ( without additional length of mod on scout)and wood stock vs stoeger with composite stock. Stoeger is loud without mod. Akela has baffled shroud and quieter. Both are equally very accurate, I shot sycamore puff balls from 40 yds away standing no rest with both guns.. I really like the scout especially at its price it’s a very solid gun but my personal preference is akela as it’s a bull pup and wood stock as I just ordered another

I used to have an akela .22 about 4 years ago and to date it's the best unregulated pcp I ever owned. Extremely quiet too, quotes than any other rifle without a mod besides the marauders. This .177 akela is not like my previous one, I haven't had time to check anything on it since last night.
