It's not too hot down in the Valley of the Sun yet so Ben and PRGC are putting on another monthly match.

Same prize structure as last month: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/xtreme-field-target-january-22nd-phoenix-rod-gun-club/page/2/#post-1167714

We appreciate Phoenix Rod and Gun hosting another XFT match! As well as AOA and JD's Custom Design for sponsoring another match through their generous donations!

Ben told me that the tally of the votes for having a Killer Troyer lane instead of an offhand lane was a tie. He mentioned maybe splitting the difference and having the near target on Lane 7 be offhand and having the far target be a Killer Troyer (tiny kz but shot from bucket and sticks). I'm not sure he's finalized what's going to happen there for sure though so it'll be a surprise I guess.

I was also told by Ben that a well known face in the airgun industry is trying to make arrangements to be present at the match, competing I assume.

If I've got the details correct, there is talk of having a grand priz type XFT match for March, a two day affair like we have in regular field target. Doing well at the March XFT Grand Prix will net some points that go towards the yearly total. Maybe someone else can supply the details, but the way I understand it, the three clubs putting on XFT/EFT matches are each holding a Grand Prix at some point in the year. That would be Ron Robinson out in Texas, Ben here at PRGC in AZ, and then Wayne Burns up in Oregon. Points gained in those XFT Grand Prixs are added to points gained at the EFT division of EBR held in October each year at Rio Salado. Finally, an award for yearly XFT champion? will be given at the EBR awards banquet. (My nomenclature is very likely wrong in some of that, so don't hold me to the exact terms and names).

Anyway, this Feb match will be a great practice run for anybody looking to do well at the XFT Grand Prix that I thin is going to be held in March here at PRGC.

And there's a permanent open invitation to anybody who wants to come check it out for the first time. Come make some new friends with which to share your airgun hobby. Contact Ben (match director) @ [email protected] or phone 480-694-6973 or PM me here on AGN with any questions.

So, Ben has hopes of adding two more lanes between now and the March match. That would allow for the March Grand Prix to be a 48 shot match on Sat, and then another 48 shots on Sunday. THAT is a lot of XFT!!!

He does work full-time though, so it is a matter of having the time do it. And putting new lanes in at PRGC is not a simple affair, considering how there's more rock than dirt and these XFT targets need a sturdy attachment system.

I think that's a great idea/compromise having one extreme troyer at 46Y and a generous offhand at 26Y on lane #7! Likely the people less good at offhand will still get one and the better shooters at offhand might miss one??? As well as the rest of the course set up with similar KZ sizes as last month. That was a FUN XFT event seeing those big steel targets fall down more often than not. Best time I've had there so far.

Spoke to Ben today.....

After the sub20fpe/ "regular" FT match at Rio Salado he headed over to PRG&C and started the process of adding 2 more lanes to the XFT course. For those familiar, he added the lanes before and after what has always been lane 1. So the new Lane 1 will be tight along the backside of the big dirt berm. Lane 2 is what used to be lane 1, and lane 3 is the other newly added lane (between what used to be lane 1 and lane 2). Far distance on new Lane 3 is right at 100 yards, and UUUUUPPPPPP. Ben's estimating it at around 30 degrees of elevation. So, far target on lane 3 will be a 100 harder at a roughly 30degree incline. Should be fun!

He says he's not 100% sure that he'll have the two new lanes all ready for this month's match but he's going to try.

Got some more info on the changes from Ben this evening that I wanted to share. Sounds like he finalized the addition of the two new lanes.

The new lane 1 near is 37 yards and far is 52 yards

The new lane 2 is 43 and 77.

The new lane 3 is 75 & 100 (practice your uphill shots for this lane!).

He's also got some changes in the works for lane markers.

Registration now open at Practiscore and looks like a couple are already signed up.

I'm excited to see the new course and throw some pellets downrange next Sat!

Who's coming this month and what (gun/pellet or slug or rimfire/scope) are you shooting?

I'm really thinking about shooting the .20/15.89gr Heavies from the Veteran Short with the Athlon Midas Tac but hoping to do some practicing on Thurs or Fri to compare (again) how it does at distance to the rig I usually shoot.

It looks like the storm will have passed and it'll be sunny, in the 70's, and with normal winds, so that's good news! You and I might have a foot of new snow on the ground though and we could sure use some more water in my neck of the woods.

Team Centercut is expecting me to use PELLETSURELY this time to practice for the GP, and well get used to missing again too, uh I mean acclimating to 3 times less BC, oh wait, no that isn't what I meant to say either, uh how about 3 times more wind drift, oh darn that didn't sound right either....Ha, see what happens to a guy that gets used to bringing a firearm to a pellet gun fight, hmm I got a bit spoiled?!

Nah, it'll be fun using ole SURELY again regardless of the lower hit ratio as well as having a 48 shot course too.

"Team Centercut" expecting 🤔 How about Mike is expecting you to use PELLETSURELY......I will be using the same crown 25 as last time, but Barb's crown took a big dump so I took my short barreled hunting crown apart and put all of her stuff onto it and tuned it back to where it was on her old 25 crown. We will have a 30 cal Impact as backup incase something happens. We are camping starting Thursday so no more practice for us for this month or next month. (I really need it pulling everything to the right off of bucket and sticks) We are taking 2 air bottles camping so if there is a chance to practice we will have air and I can at least get 1 of the tanks refilled at AOA if needed.

I am signed up, bringing my new to me Prophet .22, shooting JSB MRDs 25.4s, and my scope is an Athlon Argos Gen2 6-24x50. I have only shot the Prophet a few times now, just trying to get familiar with the rifle and hoping my dope is up to snuff for Ben’s lanes - we shall see lol! Looking forward to the match, looks like fantastic weather.

Hey Scott,

In Nov and Jan we had the opportunity to sight in/verify poi from under that same sun shade where we have the prematch meeting. There was paper to shoot at from 20-100 yards those two months.

Dunno if we will get that chance for this Feb match, but I personally much prefer getting to verify things are as they should be at various distances.

I'm excited to see how that new Prophet does for you.

As usual Ben did a great job today getting everybody and everything setup and shooting today. With the 2 extra lanes the course was "harder", but doable. Lots of people showed up and it seemed everybody had a great time. I had the honor to shoot with Bobby C. and he is a machine each and every time he takes a shot. He has a "process" he goes through for each shot and I learned a lot just watching him. He is very consistent with his approach to each shot he makes.

Thanks again everybody who showed up ,shot and helped out.....It was a blast!!!!!
