Results Xtreme FT Phoenix Grand Prix March 26/27, 2022

Hello, I just sent this as a suggestion to all the Board members involved in the rules etc. Please let us know what the shooters think of this idea.

Hello,

For incentive reasons and transparency. I think it would be a good idea to automatically enroll the top 5 finishers of every GP into the EBR roster as first to register. Unless they can not make the trip at the time of EBR. Then their spot would become a fill in with waiting list because there is ALWAYS a waiting list for FT at EBR.

A "what if" is not trying to change history. But.... maybe we could make changes in the future based on the discussions. I personally LOVE the "what if's" that come out. It's fun to extrapolate on what the competition could have been or could be in the future. It is simply extending our fun weekend into hanging out around the table and having fun with conversation and ideas.

Im thinking if my grandma had balls, I wouldn't be here. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Franklink, that we all grumble at the off hand, rarely clear that lane, but are somewhat satisfied with 50%. I think the XFT OH are much easier than the regular ft. In the end I say we keep it. Because this is a sport for hunting and when hunting and skilled marksmanship where you are forced sometimes to take off hand shots. That's part of the game regardless and WE all struggle with that. Maybe I will try turning down to 10x Power andl lessen my scope jitters. If I'm being completely honest at least at least 25% of my off hand shot I am completely shocked that I hit it. But With 12 lanes, I'm ok with our monthly matches including 4pts to oh and 4pts XTreme Troyer style as part of the mix. -hope everyine had a good time, I sure did.

Can’t say I enjoyed the offhand lanes here or at the regular FT meets I attend, and was disappointed it was not split like the previous month, I must have left too early and missed the vote. I have hunted with powder burners my whole life and do not shoot offhand except for quail/dove/turkey with a shotgun. For big game it will be typically kneeling or prone, or the use of tree, log, or boulder etc. to help steady the gun. Maybe I just need to to quit whining and go the library and check this book out lol:

Knockdown rates on the two hardest targets, (by Extreme Troyer Factor) both 3 inch kill zone targets @ 100 yards

(working off the same scorecard images as when I calc'd out the offhand hit rates so didn't have info for a couple of shooters and/or 2 shooters only shot on Sat).

My take on that.....nobody did great on those 100 yarders. For those that didn't shoot the match, the 3 inch 100 yarder on lane 3 is uphill and the 3 inch 100 yarder on lane 10 is across a ravine that I've heard shooters describe as "a river of air" presumably behaving differently than the rest of the 100 yards that the pellet has to travel through.

One step further......

I took the 17 people (starting at Lauren and going up) that I have complete data for and figured the overall hit ratio for the offhand and 100 yard shots for those 17 shooters.

Offhand was 49 hits out of 136 shots (8 shots each, times 17 shooters) for a knockdown of 36%

100yard targets was 37 hits out of 136 shots for a knockdown of 27.2%

My take on that, maybe we should be more upset about the 100 yarders than the offhand shots....

You wanna win in Xtreme FT in Phoenix? Figure out how to ace the offhand lane and the furthest shots and you'll win by a large margin. I think I remember from last months statistics deep five that we have 10 targets (out of 24, 2 per lane and 12 lanes total) that are 70+ yards.

I follow the trends pretty close and every month this is the situation. There is an exponential curve to the difficulty factor as distance increases, and the increase in kill zone size doesn't make up for the increase in distance. This is why I did the Extreme Troyer chart with an increasing multiplyer for distance. Targets from 25-50 yards are just the distance/kill zone size but targets from 51-75 yards = (distance/kill zone size) x 1.125 and targets from 76-100 yards are (distance/kill zone size) x 1.25. Anybody that has shot paper at 75 and under and then at 75+ has seen for themselves how much harder it is to get the pellets where we want them once that 75 yard line has been crossed.

Thanks for that, Cole.

Can you correlate anything to caliber for those long ones... maybe hit ratio for over 75 yds by caliber? I know Ben used his 25 this time but likely that more were 22s which might skew results a little. I also understand that it would not be definitive in any way but still might be interesting.

(Just trying to make you earn your pay... 🤣)

Cole, that got me to thinking... When I won in November with the really high Troyer, I missed all four off hand, but hit quite a few of the longer ones (and not as many of the shorter ones - trying to fit that .30 pellet through small holes, even close up, isn't easy) if I remember correctly. 24/40 was nothing to write home about... ;(

As far as the Extreme Troyer distance factor, maybe over xxx yards should have an increased number...? For example, 51-70 yards = (distance/kill zone size) x 1.125 and targets from 71-85 yards are (distance/kill zone size) x 1.25. And then over 86 yards 1.375

Bob, interesting since I had just texted Cole that same request. I see Ben, Tony and Barb shot .25 Heavy, Peykan, Larry, and Lauren shot .30 cal. 44.75, so all three "heavy" pellets were represented., including quite a few .22 RDMs.

@centercut

Sounds like in November you got more of the far ones than the rest of us. Four more offhand points would have increased the margin by which you beat us 😉

@arzrover and @centercut, yes I can figure out long range hit ratios for each shooter, and therefore caliber, but it'll be a few days before I'm stuck in front of a computer again. From the standings and equipment table in the first post, there were a lot more .22MRDs flying downrange then anything else so yes, the results will be skewed but still should be interesting to see where everybody got their points.

Hit Ratio on targets > 70 yards

FAR HIT RATIO.1648919883.jpg

LOTs of information in that table. As previously stated, I only had complete data for these 17 shooters.

Martin had the best hit ratio on these far targets, followed by John and Bobby (tied). All three of them were shooting .22/25.4gr MRDs. But, as was already noted, MRDs were represented better than any other pellet.

I see 4 shooters with .30 (15, 16, 19, and 23/40).

3 shooters with .25 (23, 23, and 24/40)

Both 100 yard targets had the lowest hit ratios (highest Extreme Troyer) at < 30%

Overall hit ratio was interesting too, looks like we're collectively knocking down just barely half of the targets past 70 yards.

Hope that is interesting to readers.

That is some good information. The offhand shots killed me for sure. My rifle is way heavy and not made for offhand. I wouldn't mind making it a standing shot but using a bipod. But, whatever works. I just need to incraese the hits on the rest of thetargets. Steve gave me some pointers that may help me next time. I did not like the heat! See if you can do something about that! Jk. Overall, I was surprised i did as well as I did. Nice job on everything.

Or we can have a night match. Is that possible you ask? Well, I am working on it. I have purchased some rechargeable lights for target Kill Zones and some solar ones for trail. I think by next month myself and a few local shooters will have tested it. Who would be interested? (Example) Friday night then Saturday or doubleheader on the fourth Saturday!!

I also am working on starting a Challenge series for next season. This would be a place for 300-500$ PCP's to compete against each other. I am looking at making a max package of 800-1000$. I would like to get this discipline of shooting to grow larger than any other. I also believe that since this venue is NOT about super accuracy. The people that have put in the time with their budget rifle could possibly shoot the same scores we are with the higher-end rifles. These shooters should at the very least be able to have the same fun we do. I currently have been in contact with some gun manufacturers and more large sponsors. So #fingerscrossed. I would like input and thoughts, let's make this huge!!!
