Have used my new Y H compressor for only two times to charge up my Huben K1. Just wondering when I should change the oil which still look very clear through the small window above the drain.

You should change it now. Always use high quality EXTREME HIGH PRESSURE-COMPRESSOR grade oil also. A few extra dollars is no price to pay for the endurance and safety returns gained for your seals. Keep your tempurature down also! compressor oil does not show nearly as dirty as combustion engine motor oil. After a few more changes you can wait longer between changes. A bit of study will save you many problems if followed. Welcome to the world of economical PCP charging!

Agree 100% You will want to change it now. Flush out all the metal shavings left over from manufacturing. A very inexpensive piece of mind.

Amsoil iso 100 or Royal purple iso 100 compressor oil is what you want. The pump will run cooler, quieter and last much longer. It only takes 9 oz so the cost isn't so bad.

AGREE CHANGE CANT HURT LOOK FOR DEBRIS IN OIL MY A V compressor wanted a change after 10 minutes. Break in

I am glad I read this post. I have a Yong Heng compressor and filled with Amsoil SAE 30 oil and have used for approximately 1 1/2 hours total. It works beautifully. I have topped two SCUBA tanks from 2000psi to 3000psi. I bought SCBA tank and filled that with the SCUBA tanks and then topped to 3700psi with the compressor and have topped the bottle on my rifle a few times after. Since reading this post, I am draining the oil and replacing with the Royal Purple Compressor Oil. So far, I see no evidence of metal or anything else for that matter in the oil. I am also flushing with the rest of my 30 Amsoil. Is there a "general" rule for the time frame between oil changes? Thanks!

When the oil starts to turn grey it's time to change. Never run detergent motor oil in a compressor or anything without an oil filter. The additives in motor oil are there to keep debris suspended in the oil so the filter can remove them before the oil goes to bearings. Everything without a filter uses non-detergent oil which lets any debris settle quickly to the bottom of the case. I purchased a gallon of royal purple iso 100 and it works great. I like Amsoil better because it's clear rather than purple but Amsoil costs way too much.

I just want to add that the oil sight glass on the compressor has a rubber baffle/gasket behind it which traps oil and can prevent you from getting a accurate look at your oil quality. I would recommend to tilt the compressor backward slightly so you can drain the pocket of oil out from the sight glass, and then tilt it forward to refill the sight glass. Then you'll get a better idea of your oil quality to decide if you want to do a oil change.

I would add that the flat gasket behind the sight glass has some holes in it, so oil can pass through, but it separates the main body of oil from the drain plug and will not allow all the heavy dirt/metal particles in the crank case to drain out with a normal oil change. I had to remove the cover once and found a lot of junk still in there, which I washed out with solvent. I have been using the factory recommended #46 hydraulic oil up till now, and have found it gets dark, (dirty) in about 20 minutes of use. I just ordered some of the "royal purple" stuff, but I didn't know it was really "purple", so I think i will get a different brand that is clear next time, so I can see when it gets dirty.
