Yong Heng compressor what am i doing wrong

One should NEVER have to unscrew stuff under pressure. Sounds to me like check valve in CYLINDER is not working to keep air from escaping. Have you tried a SMALL drop of silicone in cylinder air fitting before connecting compressor line?
I have two air cylinders and both behave the same. One is a recent purchase.
I have consulted a fellow sports person and confirmed of the grey adapter is fitted to the cylinder, air shall come out.

Yep, I’ve heard of that happening to people filling FX tanks that were off the gun.

How does air NOT ESCAPE when your fitting IS NOT on cylinder? There has to be a check valve somewhere to keep air in cylinder!!! What does end of cylinder look like without fitting? Picture? When you hand pumped were you able to easily disconnect? Should be easy with compressor too after bleeding the line.

Again I ask, when you hand filled with pump did you have same problem? What fittings were used then? Have you removed end cap of cylinder to look at its check valve?
Yes and no.
With hand pump there is a valve that one can release air from but if I do that then air will escape and empty the cylinder. However I do not touch this valve. I simply pump, fill the cylinder and disconnect. The cylinder is under pressure but not as much as the YH compressor. Does it make sense?
I use the same grey adapter on the hand pump as well. Hand pump is FX 4 stage

Jack,
Why do you include the gray adapter as part of the filling process since its purpose seems to be to bypass the one-way valve to drain tank for transportation purposes? Successful filling of tanks and airguns requires some sort of shut-off or one-way valve which isolates the air in the reservoir so that hose can be de-pressurized for safe, damage-free release. WM

It sounds to me that the gray adapter is a "degassing device"
I have a couple that came with my FWB pistol, and another that I can't remember. With Mine, you screw on the adapter and it will press against the valve pin, and degas the cylinder.
That's all I can think of.

Because that is unique to this air pistol and supposed to fill the cylinder... I cannot think of any other way to fill. In fact if you Google hammerli ap40 cylinder adapter this comes up. It came with this pistol.

I had a FWB as well at some point part. Yes they also came with their own adapter. Don't you have to use this adapter to fill as well as degas?

Why don't you start a post for AP40 owners to ask about their filling process? Something very specific but simple is happening here. Call airgun dealers who carry this tube or gun & find out. IMHO the problem lies with the cylinder check valve. That's the ONLY thing it could be. Any airgun made absolutely has to have a way to bleed fill line pressure without draining all air from cylinder!!! From the pictures, I see nothing that should be releasing air from cylinder (i.e. pressure release pin). That means it has to be cylinder check valve!

I'm no expert on PCP guns, but this problem drew my interest, so I searched "Hammerli AP40 adaptor" and found some posts on targettalk.org from years ago with the same issue - owners noted thread damage when they tried to quickly twist the tank off of the adaptor, also pressure lost during this removal. One gent said he only partly threaded the tank onto his adaptor, to avoid depressing the valve while filling, but he did have a release upstream in his fill rig to let out pressure before unscrewing the tank.
The AP40 owners' manual is pretty cryptic but appears to refer to another type of adaptor with a built-in release (this was also mentioned in one of the targettalk posts). See page 28 of this:

This might be it.... but I am not a 100% sure. How can the cylinder fill up if the pin isn't depressed?
I noticed online that the adapter that is black is being called a charging adapter. But it looks the same as my grey one.
The air pressure may open the valve. Try screwing the adapter to just before it bleeds the cylinder, then try filling.
