FX You be the judge

A little bit of experimenting with moderators today. Crown MK2 in .22. 380mm barrel running FX 18.1 pellets at 878 fps. Weather was 50 degrees with a 3-5 mph tail wind when I shot. (4) 5 shot groups at 60 yards with each can. Seems to be favoring the 0dB and Sumo.

I put air strippers in my superlight shrouds. Or at least a crude version of what can even fit in there. There's not much room.

I'll post a photo of that in a bit.

As for the mods, any of them will affect harmonics. So, in theory, if the gun is tuned to one specifically, you should be able to get the same accuracy. But we know the world just ain't that simple. So, only trying to do what I described would tell you if that's the case or not.

Sumo seems to be in most agreement at the moment.

I think it favors the 0db and the koi, did you shoot your groups from top row, left to right snd then bottom left to right?
I did shoot too row left to right, bottom row left to right, and the Ronin at the bottom was last. Actually groups for each moderator wasn’t consistent though, some were clockwise, some left right left right, some up down up down. The upper right group for the Koi was all wind. It was pretty consistent for the most part with a steady push either left, up, or right. For that group I saw the vegetation by the target moving all over the place.

LGD would a stripper work inside the shroud being the air is still retained in the shroud? I fully admit I don’t know how half of this stuff works so it’s an honest question.

And yes, the tune/harmonics I 100% agree with. The current tune was done last year in 70-80 degree temps with the Fat Boy on it. Was running just under 890 fps was just as good if not better than the Sumo. For kicks after I made the post I bumped the reg 5 bar and gave it 2 clicks on the wheel to get me back to 890 and I tested the Fat Boy, Sumo, and 0db again and they were all making ragged hole 10 shot groups.

I meant that if for each groups of four you shot from left to right starting with top row and the the bottom. If that is the case then I believe the koi and the 0db would be the best!

Sure. The older crown barrels actually had a more standard air stripper inside the shroud. Wouldn't strip as much air as one that is external, but still some which is more than none. As to how much it helps, or how much stripping it does, who knows. But those barrels tend to be extremely accurate. The bore in the end of my superlight shroud was over 9mm iirc, and the liner exit bore is very close to it, so although the shroud is active, I figured it wasn't doing as much as it could to contain some of the pressure. Main idea was to reduce noise signature but figured it couldn't hurt accuracy either. Likely help. But again, the 380mm pellet A barrel has always been a laser. Really hard to tell any change in accuracy unless it's over long distances. Normally I only shoot to about 30 yards. But I've used it and made clean head shots on squirrel out to 70. Mine has a standard circular port, but is bellmouthed to match the .30 transfer port in the gun. Picked up 50fps on factory tune. In the short barrel. Runs about 960fps @ 130 bar with 16gr aa pellets or 930 with 18gr jsb. Both as accurate as I can ask for. Don't know if the in shroud baffle helped since it's always shot so well. I more or less tuned the gun a long time ago to run in an efficiency plateu within its potential power band.

Sounds like you got a pretty good handle on what your gun likes 👍

Here is also a pic of the older air stripper that the superlight barrels do not have. Only photo I could find is of a broken one. (not mine) I have a 600mm .30 barrel like this, but no photos of inside it.
