Is there a tune for 34 grain Javelin slugs with the 700mm barrel ?

Yes mine, I just posted above:

My tune for M3 Sniper .22 cal, 700mm vanilla version with no power add on except the heavy slug liner. I tested the slugs at 50 m only.

Note on precision: after testing the slugs with the 2 type of liners it seems I can get 0.9 MOA (12mm @ 50m) accuracy with the slug liner and 1.2 MOA (17 mm @ 50m) with the Standard Liner. Also I didn’t noticed much difference between .218 slugs and .217.

Note on tuning: what really counts is the Reg 2 pressure and the value of the micro adjustment. Since there is 20 micro “clicks” and 5 macro clicks to move half a graduation on the scale, reading 4,75 means 4,7 plus 2 micro clicks. 4,7 = 4.5 plus 8 micro clicks etc. By playing with the micro knob you can adjust the Macro at any level, therefore IMO what is really relevant comparing the various tunes is the reading on the Quick Tune Scale. Last but not least, it seems at high Reg 2 pressure like 150bars, the valve return spring adjustment has negligible effects: it seems the return spring is too weak for the pressure at 150b.

1 Reg 190b, 2 Reg 150b, Valve adjustment at 5 (one full turn after the 4 th line). Heavy Slug Liner.

Patriot .218 34 gr; Speed 922 fps; E/S: 3; S/D: 1.3; Accuracy 0.8 MOA; Macro 14, Micro 4,75 (2 micro clicks above 4.7)

H&N .217 30 gr; Speed 975 fps; E/S 4; S/D 1.5; Accuracy 0.8 MOA, Macro 13, Micro 4,6

Important: all my E/S and S/D are measured for each 5 slug grouping with a Magnetospeed “bayonet” type chronograph.

BUT, now that I've tried to install the FX power slug kit my M3 has been transformed into a 2000 $ tomato pick and there is no way to return to the former situation. My humble advice: never try to imrove something that ain't broken.

The issue with my rifle was finally solved

I replaced the slug power kit pin proble with the original and…

… It worked!!!

The 34 grains speed reached 996 fps and S/D was 4. Reg pressure was 170b.

Even more strange, I also re-installed the pin probe from the slug power kit and it worked fine this time.

Why did it worked now and the very same configuration generated only 700 fps at the range? I have no clue. It is not a question of speedometer bad installation: all my velocities where measured with the FX radar and the Magnetospeed and the 2 set of measurement were consistant. Maybe the fact of installing and re-intalling the probes did fix an O ring right somewhere. Who knows?

Thanks to all who tried to help me. Time to go back to the range, test the harmonic barel schroud and find the perfect tune for my 700mm M3.

Arrrghhhh! The issue re-appeared this morning! Problem is not solved at all . Yesterday my 34 grain slugs velocity was 996 fps, this morning with the very same setting it is 700 fps. That’s a massive power reduction. I didn’t change anything it is same configuration.



I noticed the plenum is a bit offset vs the breach (see picture) can it have an influence on this massive speed reduction?

According to my experience, the difference between a 700mm and a 600mm gun is approximately 30fps...

Is there a sweet spot with regard to feet per second, in general for different calibers and pellets? I guess what I am asking, is ballistically speaking, do pellets perform best at certain speeds. I know it's a broad question but it would be nice for a starting point on tunes. For example, is a 30 caliber best at 900 ft per second? And the 25 caliber best at 950 ft per second? And so on

Anyone have an economy tune for the compact 22?

From the factory (or Utah Airguns at least), mine is shooting the 18.1 FX pellets at 880 fps and shoots one hole at 20 yards. 

I’d be fine taking it all the way down into the 500s but I’m not sure where to start.

looking at that pic makes my stomach cringe. On such a new gun, too, you’ve either got a bent barrel, a rear block that’s now all gouged up(along with the brass transfer port and adapter all gouged), and it’s probably got a stick point or two when cocking the gun, as the cocking block is not concentric with the barrel. 


if you have not pulled the barrel off yet, don’t. I’m saying that because you will struggle getting it back into the rear block. Send that back in for repairs.
If you had someone take that gun apart for you for some reason, they didn’t know what they were doing. It’s that, or the gun suffered from a sharp blow to the rear of the gun, or the gun was picked up from the rear while something heavy was piled onto the trigger block areas.

Thanks for your messagre bigragu. I finally solved the issue: when I installed the power kit I wasn't careful enough: the 2 parts of the cocking block rotated also the front of the power plenum rotated. I took a while to realize this.The rotation of the cocking block could explains thev loss of power: bad alignment between the pellet probe and the transfer probe. The power plenum offset could also have an influence on the pellet probe position. Anyway I reassembled the rifle properly and its working fine now: my 34 grains .22 slugs can fly again at 990 fps like before I messed up with the power kit. I don't think anything is gouged inside. Pfewwww. Good to return to the happy M3 owners.

Wait, I removed the slug power kit on the ground the rifle lost 50% power. The problem was not the power kit, it was my poor armourers skills. Maybe I can have another try with the slug power kit.

Now what to do with the Maverick. Nothing wrong with it but I'm a lefty...

.30 cal tune resulted in 1/2" groups and .22 cal resulted in 3/8" groups, both at 50 yards. I need a .22 cal tune for 25.39gr pellets next.

Hi, I just saw your video on YouTube and then came to AurgunNation and registered as you suggested. I’ve only been on 5 minutes and still learning how to navigate the forums but then I saw this post. 
I have a new Impact M3 Compact still on factory settings while I familiarise myself with it. Just bought some H&N 30 grain slugs which I’d like to adopt as my standard round. 
can you provide any tune settings for this combination setup? Thanks
