Other Your recommendations for best "box store" springers....

I don’t see how that will prove anything.

It takes testing multiple copies of any single model over many production batches to have data that says a model is consistently good.

The opposite question, which is how many examples does it take to prove a model is not consistently a good performer, can be just a couple of bad examples.

This is how statistical inspection works. Its not me throwing rocks.

If I was restricted to box store airguns, I’d buy from the store with the best return policy and return until I found one that shot and did not fall apart.

I don’t think low end airguns are all junk, just that some are and you can’t tell which from what.
I won’t shop at Bass Pro for just that reason. I bought a defective Gamo and they wouldn’t give me a refund due to it being a “firearm”.

dgeeseman has a point, but I'm just looking for casual input here, not trying to apply any sort of AQL sample plans to people's random observations. I do enough of that at work.

I started the thread out of curiosity, partially because I had read where people were pleasantly surprised to find good internals in the Stoeger X20, for example. And my own surprise at the very pleasant to shoot BH Elite.

I don't know much about the box store level guns, or the B1/B2/B3's of the world. But both of those guns are more impressive to me that the Gamo Big Cat I've shot a bit, and quite a few others.
A Titan GP with a GRT trigger was also a very respectable rifle IMO. Smooth working and accurate

Considering the price of German springers, I'd LOVE to find some hidden gems!

I for 1 have enjoyed this thread. While I except not every rifle is a hidden gem, it is nice to see a conversation that's not just another hw circle j__k. Nothing against weihrauch, I even own the hw30 deluxe. To get the chance to discuss other makes and models is a welcome change.

I have three Weirauch rifles, HW-30 .177 cal., HW-80K .20 cal., and HW-95 in .22 cal., also have a Gen-1 GAMO Swarm Bone Collector in .22, a Hatsan mod. 95 in .22 cal. and two Box Store specials (actually purchased at Midway USA) on sale for under a hundred dollars on sale) one is a Ruger Impact Max Elite in .22 cal., the other is a Grosman Vantage NP in .177 cal., also have several Pneumatic pumpers and one modified Co2 Crosman Carbine.
All have turned out to be great air rifles, the Weirauch rifles speak for themselves, as for my box store specials (Budget priced rifles) both came with junk bundle scopes and both had horrible triggers, the triggers were easily modified to under two pounds and smooth using U-Tube video tutorials, and the optics were swapped out with mid priced variable scopes (Hawk and Leapers), of the two the Ruger has been a reliable and fun back yard plinker, but the Grosman Vantage NP is a veritable Gem, reliability and accuracy is right up there with my Weirauch rifles, not as pretty of course but it's been a real performer, it's also fairly light weight, minute of squirrel accurate out to 35 yds. and with heavier weight pellets gives about 17 FPE, plenty good enough for small game harvesting or handling garden pests.
So yes, in my humble opinion you can find decent quality very accurate and reliable budget priced air rifles at Big Box stores, just read the reviews and be prepared to do a bit of trigger work and replace the junk scopes that come with the bundle offers.
