Your thoughts on the MTC Viper Pro

The glass is decent but a bit overpriced IMHO. Got advised AFTER THE FACT to be very leary about trusting the repeatability of that elevation dial by someone who is into high end and expensive accurate guns who owned several already who didn't have much luck clicking who gave up and got rid of them.

Haven't mounted mine and its still in the box. Pretty bummed, I wanted to use that neat dial to click in for dead on long distance shots. Woundn't want to miss the dialed in money shot!

Also bummed the glass wasn't as good as I had hoped for the price I paid.

GOOD LUCK

"TOP QUALITY SCOPE"

Now you've done it... You are going to be skipping over a lot of the scopes you normally notice a lot of people use on their guns and get down and serious with the really good stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I do own cheap scopes too and know they can't 100% click reliably but have really nice glass but for just a little more $$$ you can get the better quality ones.

I would need to know what your maximum budget is just for the scope in order to determine what to recommend because there are top of the line scopes which are the best money that can buy that can cost up to $4000.00.

I would recommend at least this one based on your competition shooting needs to start on the cheap...

DISREGARD BUYING FROM SWFA GO BUY AT OPTICS PLANET CHEAPER THERE SEE BELOW POST

https://www.swfa.com/bushnell-6-24x50-engage-30mm-rifle-scope.html

It is well worth its price and you can click it all day long and tracks perfectly.

If you want something better than that then you need to pay at least double the price

for a Sightron SIII and I can suggest something else if your budget is even higher than that.

Pay a little more get something better which is more worth your hard earned money spent.

I use upper lines of Bushnell scopes on some of my worthy guns.

have a couple of the older VIPER 4-16" .... a couple EVX's ( an "I" and "F1" in 4-16 ) along with a Connect 4x12-32 The Viper Pro was a step BACKWARDS from the previous "Viper" IMO. we simply don't see "PROs" in the FT matches where the older viper is quite common.

FUBAR on Optisans part IMO

I like the MTC Connect 3-12x32 and 3-12x24 as well for hunting, those are nice but no eye relief but once you get used to them, they are great, its like a very wide screen tv or more like a theatre! Much better optics than the Vipe Pro! Can't say for sure about the clicking though, I only hold over using these scopes. Don't want to risk it...

I have athlon optics ffp, vortex optics ffp, and just got a nightforce f1. Now the price difference between the scopes range from 400 to 3000. The nightforce is a little clearer than the vortex & athlon in my opinion but I don't know if it justifies being that much more expensive then the others.

That Nightforce must be really nice!!! I bet the clicks are perfect and repeatable 100% of the time.

I never mount it yet, only looked through it. I was going to mount it on my impact.

I bought the viper pro after watching Ted Beir's video about it. Very disappointed for sure. Ted said Mtc concentrated their efforts to get the best glass and turrets. Well even my much less expensive Utg scopes have clearer glass. The fancy turret's a joke. Sure the wheel in the window only turns at one third the rate of the dial but that leaves very little room if you want to mark your own distances like Ted was doing. Also they're only 1/4" moa as compared 1/8" on my Utg 4-32X56 scope. I added a larger drum to the elevation turret on the later and have plenty of room to mark distances down to even 1 yard. I see Ted didn't use his viper pro at the 2018 Ebr so that tells you something.

I own one and I am not a big fan of it. In all fairness though, mine seems to be a "pre-production" unit of some sort. That would certainly explain why some features are better on current MTC Viper Pro's, compared to mine. The turrets on mine are not that great, nor is the quality of the glass. However, I went the other day and tested a "current" Viper Pro and I have to say, the turrets are much nicer than on mine. BTW, I wrote a little "review" about it here.

When it come to the "main" feature, which is the top turret with the gear box and ability to make your own range tapes, I am not a big fan of that either. The idea is not bad, but implementation was not done right. Making the tape is a PITA, and "even" Ted did not do it. He just wrote the distances on the tape. There is also "play" in the turret, and I hate that.

What I also realized after having owned it for a while, is the fact that you can easily slap a range tape on any turret (Scope). Sure, it is not going to look as nice, but many do it anyway. Function over form. Also, the fact that the top turret only does one rotation, so you do not get confused, is irrelevant if you have a scope that covers enough MOA or Mil for the type of shooting you are doing. In other words: If your scope has 8 MOA or 15 Mil per rotation, you are often covered out to 100 meters or so. So if you shoot 90% of the time below that, there is not reason to turn your turret more than one rotation and lose track, if you know what I mean... !?

Thanks,

Kmd

If you want reliable repeatable clicking for dialing for your every shot then you need to get at least a Weaver, Bushnell or SWFA when on a tight budget.

I would start with this one which has awesome glass. Suggested on a different post buying from SWFA but Optics Planet is cheaper now.

I nearly bit on the unique Viper PRO 5-30X50, with its custom capable elevation turret, but the reviews were just not persuasive enough to sway me. I currently own, and love, a couple of the discontinued scopes from MTC (Optisan) Viper line up; the 3-12X44 and most recently, the 8-32X60. Great scopes, clear and accurate, and built like tanks. I use the 3-12X44 for paper punching, and the 8-32X60 for field target... so yeah, precision shooting. I would love to get one of the first focal plane scopes from MTC. I own a 3-15X42 FFP from SWFA, and love it, it currently sits atop one of my powder burners. This scope is on my short list:
