Your Thoughts On The New TalonP Carbine .25

...I got mine...(not that carbine package, a TalonP)...not shooting it much right now but it will be the last to go...I did end up buying a 24" barrel for it but I have not thrown the 12' barrel away...

...I bought the "stock" with the gun...that brought the price up right off the bat...

...I bought a DonnyFL adapter and a Shogun for it...with the 24" barrel I use the Condor adaptor and an Emperor...

...regulators are very cool but I am not hung up on them...

...the TalonP/Escape and two CZ rifles I have are shooting pellet on pellet @ 25 yards w/o one...

...my thoughts are that the "Talon P Carbine in .25" is a nice package but I put together a better one...IMHO...but for a bit more $$$...

...the scope is not impressive...for a fixed power scope 4 X is a good choice...IMHO...

...in the old days a fixed power scope was the only type I would consider…now I am reluctant to buy one...

MrP.........many thanks for making some very eyeopening observations on the AF design.

This does say it all:

Also, for me, the simplicity is what makes it amazing. No crazy air paths, no chintzy plastic magazines, no little pieces to fall out, no complicated cocking/loading mechanism. It's kind of funny because i was thinking about the warranty… but on a stock gun there's really nothing to break that you can't fix yourself.

...could not have said it better...toys vs tools...

It's funny because people hate on the consistency of the Air Force style but look at the style of other traditional guns that haven't changed in decades also.

No hate here. I love the power and accuracy of my .257 but IMO adding a shrouded LDC and a cheap butt stock shouldn't be called revolutionary. I've seen other people trick out their AF guns that's beyond amazing (ex. Doug Noble).

I do get the expression "If it ain't broken, dont fix it" but I've heard this before with Daystate's Harper Sling Shot valve and how they said they didn't needed a reg. The same from Air Arms.

If you are stuck in your design and dont want to change, you will be left behind.

Everyone I have seen be it online forums or on FB that purchases these Talonp carbine packages, ends up replacing the moderator, unless they are a sponsored content Youtuber, then it's the greatest thing ever.

I've found the TalonP platform to be the ultimate take down gun, but it's very loud making 50fpe with 12" of barrel, and while I have used several different moderators on mine, to get it quiet at full power, you need more than that little one they've added. Sure it's better than nothing, and you can tune it down to 25fpe - 30fpe and get good results from it, but it's not doing much at full power.

My TalonP puts out 74fpe and I use a DonnyFL Emperor to make it quiet, Ronin for most field usage, and also have a Neil Clague moderator for bench work.

I don't know why AirForce hasn't put out a regulated bottle, externally tunable yet. As well as the platform shoots slugs, having an option for regulated consistency + power would be a really good combination.

.

“Revolutionary” hahaha oh man. Like I said, I am pro Talonp as I have one and absolutely love it, but placing a moderator on it and calling that innovative is funny. Also saying it comes in classic black is dumb. The moderator on the package looks bulky and I haven’t heard any good reviews about it yet. To me it looks like it is compensating for something other than the sound.

Anyone else ever look at that .30 barrel at Talon tunes? Costs more than the rifle, but I’ve always wanted it. Can’t be too hard to machine a .30 barrel spacers and all that.

Glad you made that observation regarding the moderator that comes with it. Now thinking I should just get it without one and get a DonnyFl Emperor and or Neil Clague.

I was wondering why AF doesn't offer a regulated bottle externally adjustable. Are they available for the Talon line?

The moderator and regulator are things that could really make it versatile. Making a mental note.

I'm thinking about 55 FPE for all-around use.

Many thanks again for your input!

I recall briefly thinking they had released something new when they first launched that campaign and being disappointed to see that it was nothing new. They are kind of asking for it I guess to try to push it as anything other than an accessory pack.

the .30 barrel would be nice but I agree the price is kind of a shock. I'm definitely up to purchase a longer .25 barrel one of these days.

to get 55 FPE with 12" barrel I need to shoot heavy projectiles like 43-47 grains. Otherwise it shoots in the 40's

Yea that marketing word "New" can sure be overused and used for the wrong reasons. When I see the word "New" red flags popup automatically.

That's why I'm throwing caution to the wind and asking before I take this big leap. I've always owned the wood-stock versions of pumpers, springers, PCP, and powder burners.

My first PCP was the Benjamin Marauder Gen ll when it came out. Started filling with scuba tank now I use a YH compressor which was a rather interesting learning curve and without its trial and tribulations.

To get out of my comfort zone and seriously start thinking AirForce is quite a hurdle for me. Might being over cautious but just want to make sure I know what I'm getting me into.

Regarding the 55 FPE, would that not be much more doable with using slugs?

Hello --

My 7-yr old son and I shoot ours almost everyday. Shortening LOP for him is easy, and clamped in a pig saddle gives him trigger time, without my getting muzzle sweeped. With a DFL Sumo and soft o-ring glued on the hammer backyard shooting is pretty quiet. Other than the smack on AR400 steels. Got mine from AF's Outlet, gun only, 429$.

...don't over think this...the TalonP is what is is w/or w/o the hype …

...fuk that package...the moderator and scope will end up on a shelf...

...just buy a TalonP and the parts you want and and thank me later...it is what it is and there is nothing like it...

...is a 1911A outdated...???...a Glock...???...a model '94 Winchester...???...

...you got something better for the JOBS they do...???...

...fwiw I fill my TalonP cum Escape exclusively with a Hill pump to save my air for the CZ's...

...I use the pump for filling the AP 16 as well although it is a challenge to get it up to 300 bar...

...but if Hapo can do it anyone besides his mother could too...

...so buy a shoulder stock if/when you get a TalonP...the "stocks" are over priced, IMHO, but I bought one as I needed it...

...then contact Donny Du...LoL...

...I tried the Shogun and ended up with an Emperor for the back yard...but that is in Backyard Escape mode...

...I have the parts to set up a TalonP carbine with the Shogun moderator and that is a very sanitary set up...it would probably be ok in most back yards too...just not mine so much...

...I can shoot it but not a more than a little...maybe three shots at a time at the most...my yard is very close to nosey neighbors...

...one thing I like with the TalonP air tank besides the powerful valve is that medium height rings are all you need to get a sight picture...

...the reduced shot count is fine for Hapo as we use the thing for hunting and killing and like being able to fill it easily with a hand/foot pump...

Are the Donny Fl moderators that much better than what you get with an AF moderator?

Now, that I would not know. I avoided the AF moderator as that thing is kinda dedicated to the gun with the adapter being female and whatever AF has for threading. With proper adapter for 1/2-20UNF, DFL moderators just move from gun to gun depending what I feeling like shooting. Aside from that, on the Talon P the Sumo's OD is close to the shroud diameter, and does not look like a potato masher. Just changed out the transfer port and going out shooting now.

I would just buy a regular old talonp. Or find a used talon ss and (if not the ideal barrel) get the barrel that suits your needs, drill the baffles to match if sizing up.

I put a .25 12" barrel in a .177 talon ss (drilled the baffles out to match) and have a ported / polished condor valve and high pressure bottle... i can adjust from 40 - 65+ Fpe (haven't tested highest hammer preload). The shot count fees luxuriously high compared to the talon P. It is pretty quiet up to about 55 FPE. Makes a pretty loud "pafffft" above that

To the question of the Manufacturer standing behind their product, I own a .25 Condor and just received an Escape UL .22 cal yesterday, with a small leak from the fill port. A quick call to Airforce and the very friendly technician agreed to send me a new fill port immediately, even though I can most likely repair the leak myself. My experience with support from Airforce has been quite good over the years, and that combined with parts availability, is the reason I sold some guns to buy another from Airforce.

You will never need to send a airforce to factory unless you have problems with the trigger..everything else with a few Allen keys n another minor tools everyone could work in it .. I'm far to be a gun Smith..and I just finished my .223 talon ss..with some tools n few extra parts is shooting 60g at 970 fps , in power level 1 of 10 at 3050psi ..that is something in the 125-FP with power to spare..tell me what other gun you could go from shooting 18g pellets to 60g bullets without some serious machinists at your side..all of the shelf parts..only part you need to purchase machined of have some one to doit for you..the barrel...the only thing I would modify is to be able to be a multi shot with the same power..
