ZAN .22 cal. 40 grain slugs

I got a few packs of these last week. In my Impact M3 700mm I got 900fps with the second reg at 170 bar and max hammer spring tension. Can't speak to their accuracy as I only shot 5 of them, I was tuning for 34gr Javelins at the time. I will say that they do not feed well from the magazine. They are so long that they get sandwiched by the mag lid, so the mag doesn't spin freely.

Yea last night I went back to the Zan website and ordered one of the CARM magazine for these 40gr slugs. I put some of these 40gr slugs in one of my magazines and the magazine binds up and won't advance. These slugs are just a silly millimeter too long so it was either order one of these CARM magazines or get out my belt sander and take a little off the slugs... the new mag idea won out thankfully! :)

This might be another option for a magazine to shoot those 40 grain slugs.

They say you can shoot a slug up to 13mm long.

I kinda like the hinged lid !

Okay guys, I just loaded my new CARM .22 mag designed for these 40 grainers...it holds 16 shots and it cycles these 40's flawlessly! I highly recommend it!

Centercut: Hi Mike, I am hoping I can start my .22 project next week. I will see how they do at 1120 ft/s first which would be 112 ft lbs...and then go from there. I will be starting out with a 700mm Standard Superior Liner that has a 1:24 twist rate, and then as soon as I can get one I will reshoot everything with one of the .22 Heavy Liners that has the 1:16" twist rate. So far I have Zan 28gr, 30.5gr, 33gr., & 40gr, and my friend Dale Riggert also just sent me a bunch of his stuff in .22 cal to experiment with...so this should be a fun project. And by the way Mike, I love my new hand grip I put on Helga...so much so that I gave away my LuthAR grip. (https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/laminated-handgrip-for-impacts/?referrer=1)

All the best, Chuck

...ooops I forgot the pictures!

Gotcha. I’ll be very surprised if you can get them over 1000 FPS for about 89 FPE. That’s HUGE for a .22 air rifle. But if anyone can do it, Chuck, it’s you!

Did I miss the pressure? What will the regulator be set at for 900,1000,1100fps with a 40 grain .22 slug.

I've watched a couple of chucks videos on YouTube, he says that reg pressure is a secret !

I'm not sure why ??

Because 190 bar is too much for some guns and people may ridicule.

The true measure of skill is making the gun as efficient as it can be. Pick a reg pressure and compete with others to see who can get the most out of that setting.

Received my new magazine and the 40gr .22 ZAN slugs today. I leave my M3 for the .35 caliber but instead tried them in my MK2. With the 700mm barrel and the regulator set to 145bar i was able to shoot a 10 shot string with an average fps of 905, roughly 72.7ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle.

My MK2 has the 720 upgrade plenum and was with the slug probe. The Carm magazine is awesome and I was able to use it with my Griffin 32gr BT slugs with zero issues.

With the same settings as I used for the 40gr ZANS I was shooting the 32gr BT at 1028 for 75 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle.

.22 Project Update: Today I went to shoot Helga with a .22 cal. barrel on her with one of the new Superior Heavy barrel liners with the 1:16" twist rate...but the .40gr Zan Slugs I have that measure .218 are too large for the barrel liner! So I came home and ordered another box of the Zan's in .217 and will try them in a few days whenever they arrive. I am anxious to see the accuracy with these 40 grainers out of a Heavy liner with a 16" twist on the rifling.
